She immerses herself among her roses today,
Red, White and yellow blooms,
multiplying in the sun upon her trellis.
Years have gone by since she planted
the bushes, then tiny, with her husband.
They turned the soil together planning their lives,
when the house smelled of new paint and
a new life was beginning to grow within her,
like the roses against the trellis.
It was so long ago, that today the roses are the only reminder of
her children who have moved away to create their own gardens,
and her husband who long ago ceased to know her.
But the roses, still here, year after year grow more beautiful.
She immerses herlself among her roses today,
Red, White and yellow blooms,
multiplying in the sun upon her trellis,
reminding her of what could have been.
