| "I have friends that are..." |
A lot of the time, this phrase is used to insulate the speaker from the bigoted statement that they are getting ready to make, or possibly the statement that is founded on ignorance toward the people that they are about to slander or slur. Such as " I have friends who are black, but I wouldn't want my daughter to marry one" or " I have friends who are Muslim, but I'm talking about the extremist Muslims".
I know a lot of things about a lot of subjects, but the thing I know the best is that I still know next to nothing.
I bring this up, because I have seen a lot of posts and news articles concerning the Muslim religion versus the Muslim extremists, and it had raised more questions than it has come close to answering. So, let's go over some of them and if you could, enlighten me on the truth's or possibility of truth to the following points.
The Muslim religion is a peaceful religion, based on the word of Allah. But, it is said that the Muslims are allowed and encouraged to lie to the infidels and that it is their place to destroy as many infidels as possible to secure their place in the kingdom of Allah. So, this "friend I have that is a Muslim", who is "a pretty good guy", is he really trying to lull you into a false sense of security so he can kill you? Apparently, there are some who are doing just that, as witnessed on the evening news (just this week, one legal execution of a mass murderer, one crazed shooting rampage on a military base, and assorted reports of Muslim instigated violence in most middle eastern countries). And, as we should all know, most news isn't actually reported, just the stories that make good sound bites.
I freely admit that I have not read the Koran, and will probably never get to the point that I will want to read it. But, based on what I have heard from people who have claimed to have not only read it, but have dedicated a large portion of their lives to studying it, the religion of Muslim is, in fact based on many of the same principles that the Christian and the Judaism scriptures are based on...and...uh...oh.
Posting discontinued.
(As I wrote the above and pondered the next question of "How could these beliefs be misconstrued to drive an entire society to hate and kill..." and I remembered the history of how Christianity was spread. Kind of makes me wonder what the Muslims thought when the crusades were visited on them, but remembering the towers, I think I may know.)
