 Willie Sutton was wrong
"Why did I rob banks? Because that is where the money is."  is what he said

Not from what I experienced this week.

For years they have tried in the US to get us switch to dollar coins.
They tried Eisenhower dollars for years that were the size of manhole covers.
So they tried a silver Susan B Anthony coin that had a weird edges so that people did not confuse them with quarters which are a similar size.
That did not work so they tried gold coins and then Presidential gold coins.

It is easier or cheaper or something to make coins then paper dollars.  They want us to use them.  Well how do you use something you can not find.

I will be seeing my neices and nephews this weekend and decided to get 10 of them to give out.  Uncles and grandfathers did that all the time when I was a kid.
I called 3 banks and none have them.

How can we use them if even banks do not even have them? This sounds like such a goverment run idea, coins that no one has.

Count your blessings, WK. When they first introduced dollar coins in Canada, they were few and far between. Before we knew it, we were overrun. Then came the $2 coins, bigger and heavier. The next thing we new, men were walking funny from the weight in their change pockets. Women were suffering from mysterious shoulder ailments caused by heavy handbags. You don't ever wanna fall off the pier with change in your pocket in this country!

On the upside, purse snatching has become a thing of the past :)

In Australia we have had $1 and $2 coins for a long while now. They are both of gold coloring. Yes one of the coins is similar size to another coin, but the edging is different. However all our coins have different edges on them so that the blind can differentiate between them all. All in all we have 6 coins, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2. There has been word going around that the government are thinking about doing a $5 coin. That I will not be happy with. My purse gets heavy enough as it is.

the things aren't really a bad idea, they've just never reached critical mass- dunno if that's from supply or demand...or both..
