| Where have all the workers gone....

I recently was promoted to a supervisory position at work and noticed something, no one wants to work ! People it seems have decided that a job is a birth right and not something that they need to work to keep, and I have all college graduate professionals under me. Lateness that seems to not bother them is constant. I am here at least 30 minutes early to make sure I am here on time. I once had a flat, had to call AAA, have them come to change it as my jack was not working, they came, did it, and I still made it here on time!!! And once here if their kids stub their toes or their best friend is in town or the sun is out or the moon is full, well they need to leave. Listen, people have lives and I am not saying work should be a sweatshop, but you need to know work is work and it pays your bills. And God forbid you say they need to work a little harder when they are here, or even if you couch it by saying work smarter or set standards they need to meet...then you are being mean. And also forget saying that the weekly, almost daily party for someone's birthday needs to be wrapped up or that your 15 minute break is not a 30 minute one, or lunch is not a 3 hr cruise. NOOOOO work is a social club that you occasionally have to work at !!! Am I the perfect employee? nahhhhh I have flaws at work too butat least I show up and stay and when here I try to work. Anyone else see this?

hi white!
no ofense, but your other blogs haven't interested me much but with this one you hit the nail on the head!
yes, it's a pervasive sense of 'entitlement' that probably stems from not having learnt a good work ethic at an early age.
sad but true, my friend. i also just noted we're the same age - is that significant? ;o)
:o)
cheers!
