Wearin' of the blue, yellow, black, white....
But not green!!!!!
Ok. I know like my Holloween one, I will be told I am being a real stick in the mud for this post but....
I am about as Irish as you can get and have never been there.
I am almost full blooded Irish on both sides, there is a little German snuck in but all that means is when I drink I decide to rule the world (LOL).
In 10 days I know I will be asked over and over and over why I have no green on.
"You are Irish right?"
Well in a sense no, as I was born in the United States, and we will get to that later, but also yes and I am, and I am 365 days a year and so I do not need to make sure I wear a certain color on a certain day to show you I am.
Now I am proud that my ancestors came, built lives that made me possible here in the US and I salute them.  But wearing a certain color on a certain day, and even more my point getting drunk on that day, does nothing to make it apparent.  The drunken part actually makes it worse!
Listen, there are people who would find an excuse to have a party at the opening of an envelope, so I guess it is a reason to party and in that sense I should lighten up, but I am a little ticked at the idea that just because we salute a saint on that day we must get drunk or wear green or sing Danny Boy.
But the thing that I guess ticks me more is this:
I am an American
I am not an Irishman
Every weekend coming up from now till maybe November there will be some parade or festival or something that celebrates some foriegn culture in New York City.  The news will cover it, and wthout fail I will hear about "In my country.." or "My country..."
This is your country my friend!
You are here.  You are not in Cuba or Trinidad or England or China or wherever.  This is where you are, and where you live, work, and make your money.  It makes me so miffed to hear  some one in some traditional garb on my Saturday morning news show talking to the weather person, they usually send them, about how proud he or she is of THEIR country.
Look there are three major International airports in New York area, get on a flight and go back if you are that proud.
I would love to go see Ireland, but America is my country.
One day, if I get my wish, one person in my marriage will not be living in the country of their birth.  I know that if I move to Aus. that I will not stop being an American, but I will not refer to The United Sates as my country, it may be home, it may be back in my homeland, it may be alot of things, but if I move there Aus. will be my country till I move back.  And on July 4th I will maybe put out a US flag, but I will celebrate the equal of July 4th in Aus. with the same gusto as I do the 4th here.  That will be my country, I will assimulate as much as a late 40's person can.
This may all seem petty and maybe I am just in a mood but I see the calendar and see that day coming and.....

The other day KP and I were talking about this site and that you all only see my best side, you only see this man that is in love witha woman, involved in some great epic, "what they make love songs and movies about", love story.  So soon KP is going to post all my bad qualities as a little fun post.  I guess I just beat her to one of them in some of your eyes.  Things tick me off at times...LOL

Just a bit confused, is someone twisting you arm to make you wear green, and is that same person pouring liquor down you throat.

If the answer is no the what is the problem. Don't do it, and why let it tick you off that someone else wants to.

Sorry babe

It was less about green and beer and more about the other part baby.
I guess my desire to see the melting pot start melting more is coming out
