For the readers that either 1) Are not into sports 2) Are not into American sports, this post is not for you...although it may be so read on. I think baseball had to do this. I never liked Bud Selig as a Commissioner and have always thought that he was not good for the game, but he made some good points in what he said yesterday. I think the unless baseball looked into this it would have always seemed like they had something to hide. Anyway, so I think that lloking into this all was a good idea...BUT... I think this may be another step in taking away something bigger than baseball or sports..and that is that there has always been a little bit of a "code" with men. Call it honor amoung thieves, callit the blue wall of silence, call it what you will. Wthin certain parameters men could always be trusted to know when a secrect was a secrect and when to keep quiet. Now listen, I am not saying that your best friend walks in and says he just hacked his wife to death that you need to say nothing. I am not saying that you see your best friend rob an old lady you keep silent. What I am saying is that there were places that men could be men and let their guard down a lil. And a locker room was one of those places. And no, this is not about women reporters in there, that issue has long since been settled and it seems to be working I guess. I am saying that from what I have heard, alot of this report comes from guys who saw things in locker rooms and clubhouses of teams and ratted. What if what they saw was a guy tempted, having the substance and not using? What if what was seen was the one time the guy tried it, and he never did again? All I am saying is that while being a man is not like some mafia code of silence, you need to maybe sometimes say that you do not rat a friend. We may get a better game, a more fair game. the next guy that flirts with 60 homers in a year or 700 for a career may not have to get looks...but did we lose more?
