Part 4:Know when to say goodnite
So now it is 8 PM, we have been going since 8 that morning...I should have known to take the day as a victory and go...but I got greedy and thought I could add on....
Top of the Rock:
So dinner is done, paid for and we are off again.  This was the only part of the day that I had not a clue what we were up to.
It is not hard to figure you take a Yankee fan to a game if they are home on his birthday, I almost have a standing appointment at the barber for that shave..an alarm goes off when I hit the city and my wife could not remember the name of the place to eat so she had to ask me...but this last part was a mystery.
Rockefeller Ctr has 3 tiered deck on top where you can see the city.  I have heard it is better than the Empire State in that going from one level to the other is easy and the top one has no real barriers so nothing gets in the way when you want to take pictures.  My wife figured I would love it up there at night, for pictures and just the view.  It was a good idea.  The son even got into it.
Most great cities have a new life at night and New York may be the best at that.  They talk of the lights of Paris, New York may be up there.
Loved the view
Came down and took a few more pics of the skaters, that light fountain that they had there for now.  And then snuck off and called KP.
I was like a little kid and she was like a little girl.  She got the biggest kick out of the fact I was in Rockefeller Ctr and talking to her! I was just happy that I was talking to her and the where was nice too.  Soon I can do that in person baby.

Here is where I should have called it a night.

Time Square, 21, and stunned shock:
I decide that maybe we need one more stop.  I have this bug up my rear about eating or having a drink at the Marriot Marquis in Time Sq., always wanted to do that as it has a great view of Time Sq.
So we go.
I get a picture drawn of me by a sidewalk guy that makes me look like I am a fat faced body builder.  The body builder part is the joke, but I am not that chubby cheeked.  Maybe I smiled to wide.
We get to the place to have the drink and they tell us my son can not come up and just sit as we have a qucik drink.  As he is not 21 yet they can not let him in.  I get the law, but what makes it weird is that an hour before, he would have been fine but at 9 I guess they turn into pumpkins.  I am a little ticked but I had a good day so I am fine.
But I come up with a few ideas of how we can do this.  Maybe have him eat somewhere, a quick dessert while we have something upstairs, there is a GIANT Toys R US there look in there while we go.  My son was having none of it and that made me a little more peeved.  Roll w/ the flow, it is dad's birthday.
He gets even more ticked that I asked.
I get short but civil.  It is a public street we are walking on.
The wife now sees all she planned being a waste so I focus on her, tell her no and that we had a great day.  Iam not happy with the kid as it seems that as long as we doing things he wanted to we were fine, put him out a bit and BOOM all is bad.
I am not yelling
I am not screaming
I am not really that mad or ticked, just more disappointed that I did not get that cherry on top.  I know I am being silly and I knew it then, so I vented slightly and got over it.
We get to Herald Square(near where Macys is for you non-NYC people)
We are waiting for the train when my son mentions he is glad he is driving.  I say I am not drunk, I had one bourbon 2 hors ago and my wife had a wine then.  Neither of us probably could not blow a clean breath test in any state.  But drinking was not what he had in mind...
BUCKLE IN KIDDIES THIS IS A REAL SWERVE!!!!!
Seems my son thinks I hit my wife! And he thought with us both in the front seat i could do it while driving!
For the record I have never thought about doing it even on the two or three times early on when my wife got mad and hit me on the shoulder.  I would just look at her calmly, ask if I ever hit her, and then move on.  She stopped when she realized that I was right and hitting was not an answer(at 30 she got that?) I do not throw things.  I have maybe punched a wall twice, but always far from where anyone was, not the Tony Saprano move of hitting it feet from you.  I also have not done it for years.
I have even got my verbal temper in much better check and later in this when we were in the car when I could talk again I noted that only once have I said anything to my wife that was purely a way to hurt her and that was not even some insult about her (She said to leave her alone during a talk we were having that got heated, I shot back maybe I should have left her alone when I met her).
My wife almost instantly defended me and said she is  offened that he would think that, asks if he has ever seen me do anything like that and has he ever seen a buise?  He says she could be hiding them. I just sat there stunned, repeating that I was offended.
Seems he got this idea from PSA's he hears on the radio.  I did point out the same ones say kids use drungs, should we test him?

So we get on the train and the wife and I sit.  My son decides to sit alone in another part of the car and we let him.  We talk about his statement, I BS with some young woman that saw the new Rolling Stones movie and get a review...she loved it....and basically I tell my wife i had a good time.

As this has gone on long enough I will wrap up quickly
We drive home, I drive.
We try to talk to my son for the billionth time about his feelings on all this an get zip
We find a bar close to home and have that last drink while he sits in the car.  At 18 I figured that is not some big front page headline PARENTS DRINK WHILE SON IS IN CAR.
And the night ends well enough

PS : Notice what did not happen at the end
I will give you a hint: We came home, I checked email, we went to bed and slept

HAe a few overview thoughts, but next time
