| Is this just my pet peeve or.......

OK, is this just me being my cranky self, or is this something that bugs others......
Just got off the phone with someone that I never met, it is a quazi-buisness relationship(she is my son's Principal), and I never introduced myself to her ever as just my first name...
yet she found it Ok to just use my first name.
This seems to be common now to just assume my first name can be used. It seems rude to me. If I said "Call me Dwight" that is one thing, but I never did !
I am dealing with her on a professional level, parent to administrator
I am Mr Edwards in that situation
I am not Dwight
Or am I just being too tight?

I don't think so.Growing up I was taught to call adults by using Mrs. or Mr. unless the adult told me otherwise. The first job I had calling my boss by his first name felt unprofessional and disrespectful, very uncomfortable.I think respect goes out the window being on a first name basis in some situations.

I agree with you. The principal should have called you Mr. Edwards until you offered "Call me Dwight". I don't like how "casual" everything has become either and hope the pendulum swings the other way at least with respect to certain things.

I am with you as well you, I worked in a school and I always called referred to parents by their title, unless expressly requested to do otherwise, to assume such familiarity is inappropriate

Well if you called me Mrs XXXX then I would think you were talking about my soon to be ex-mother in law!! :)
But no, you are right, you should be addressed as Mr Edwards..
