Had a intresting morning at Mass this morning.
This blog may make some of your blood boil, some may hate me after this and some may think I am a deep thinker...be prepared
When I was a kid in Catholic school we would always say that had Adam & Eve not eaten the apple we would not need to go to school. We would get mad at this idea, if only they had not eaten that stinkin apple!
Today at Mass they did the reading and it reminded me of that....but maybe it was was that really a bad thing? Was it really all that much a sin what was done if we take the Bible at it's word?
But hold on to that thought while I mention something else....
The other day I was listening to someone describe what they thought heaven was, and what they described was a place where it seemed that mindlessley you just sit and praise God over and over and over again....
then today at Mass a person said that in heaven all the passions and loves and emotions are surpressed...
so all that makes you human is gone or made less in heaven?
Now I am not so nieve or shallow that I see heaven as some sort of place were I get to play baseball all day and watch old Marx Brothers movies.
I get that it is so much deeper, but why make your best creation less than it is forever?
Ok so my point is this:
These two points seem to suggest that people want a God that wants a people that are mindless, no passion, no ability to know good and evil and what is good and evil...,a robot, a dog, a mindless drone....
I mean lets really ask, did God really want man to be here, just in some state of fog, not really happy or sad or in love, or able to decide, or make mistakes or learn?
And do we really think that God wants us as a mindless drone forever in heaven, even if we spend all day worshipping him?
I think that maybe we sell God short, if we wanted that he could have made us that easily.
But he gave us lust and greed and a mind that knows when we are doing something right or wrong. And that is another flaw in the whole "tree in the middle of the garden" story: If we did not know bad from good, how did we know that we were making a mistake to "eat the apple"? Again I do not think it was an apple, or a pear, or anything like that....and what it was is most likely not important, and maybe it ws not one act that is the downfall of man, maybe we are still adding to it....but I still think that if God is all we say he is, all we make him. all we have faith he is, he wants us with all our flaws and all or passions.
Recently a radio show I listen to asked if you could PROVE there was no after life, would it change how you live?
The conversation became more about what would you do if God was not real
What scared me is that one person said he would start a lif of petty crime, because there is no punishment now while another stated he would still go to church.
So in one case on afterlife means no punishment, no punishment means you can do what you want...as long as it was "not too serious"
The other was already a mindless drone as he would go worship who exactly?
But is God simply an afterlife? What is there is no heaven or hell but God still is there and just decided that both of those "places" were here and while maybe it was not fair or just but sometimes the bad guy does win? And God is, as some people say, love?
I know this got deep but is not God a deep subject?
