Back almost a year ago I went to see ROCKY BALBOA the latest and last(I think) Rocky movie. I will admit I love Rocky as a character and while I know some of them got silly, I loved all the movies in the series. I thought that while there were other places the character could have went, ie, I always thought Rocky V should have been some idea based on Rocky running for Congress and people doubting him but he has the long talk w/ Adrian about how he had always used his body, his muscles to get ahead and now someone was going to respect him for his mind.... while that could have been another place to go, I thought the character was as icon and that how he decided to end the series, Rocky as a man with dignity, at peace, still in love with his wife even after she had died was a great ending and it fit his age. However even I am a little doubtful that a boxer in his late 50's, early 60's could fight the current champ no matter how in shape he got and how much the current guy was injuried. George Foreman was respectable, but in a filmed alternate ending Ricky wins that fight in the movie, and in the one we saw he comes damb close.
Age is not really an ally in this movie
Then I saw RAMBO.
That thing was a dumb idea
The age thing should have killed this idea on the drawing board !
There is no way this guy is even trying to be the one man army at the age he is, never mind doing it and pulling it off !
Now we are a few months away from the return to the screen of another iconic figure, Indiana Jones. But this might work perfectly. First of all, in most cases in his movies, Dr Jones works with others to get his prize. He does have alot of "one man show" adventures, but they are not the entire movie like a Rambo. The character also has a job that men age in, he is an archeologist. He is an adventurer, yes, but we also have seen that he is not just an adventurer, he is a professor, a researcher and we also saw that doing this for life is in his blood when we met his dad.
I know this may be silly, decideing if a fictional character is too old to do his pretend job. But, when it seems that the studios in Hollywood have run out of new ideas for movies and are just rehashing old characters for one more run...and yes I know, the last Rocky movie was Stallones pet project he forced down the studios throat....it is good to see that maybe one of these "what ever happened to" sequels might work.
The trailer looks good and I can't wait to see if the whole movie stands up to the standard that the two good ones in the series (Temple of Doom was a bit too weird).
See you at the movies
