Alright time again the the international tribunal of thoughts to convene
Either I will be proven right or I will learn something
A woman I work with has a son in her 20's that is asking a woman to marry him. But the parents are paying for the ring.
I say this is wrong as if you are old/responsible enough to make that choice you should be getting your own ring for the girl.
I am told this is a culture thing and I just do not get it as I am an American,white, Catholic from NJ.
I throw it open to my family from around the world on here that cover 6 continents and every background. Is this a culture thing or "get the married now so I get grandkids" thing ?

I agree that if you're old enough to get married, you should be old enough ti buy the ring!
My father in law paid for my wedding ring and my engagement ring, which cost collectively about £20 (40 ish dollars)...one of many signs I really should have paid attention to - even then, I wasn't worth the effort. I wouldnt have wanted an expensive ring, but it would have been nice to know he had paid for it!

I agree the guy should pay for the ring and not depend on his parents. A lot of kids that 'think' they are ready for the big plunge need the parents to pay for it. If you're old enough to marry then be responsible enough to 'foot the bill'...just my opinion....:)

I absolutely agree with Chebtastic1 - if the guy is responsible enough to be a husband, he should be responsible enough to buy the friggin ring. My grandfather paid for my mother's ring but that was 40 odd years ago and kids were getting married too young and before they were necessarily financially secure. If this kid can't pay for a ring, (and it doesn't have to be 2 carots or anything), he should probably work for a few years and THEN get married. Just my opinion!
