 Bobby Fisher
I was one of those kids that got into chess for 5 minutes in the 70's when he became the chess champ.  I sort of even thought I could get that good, but never had the patience.
But I think that the more important thing to get from his death is that he was a wasted talent.  The man was brilliant, and was just another example of how only the truly brilliant, the real genius level minds, can go really truly mad.
It is often said there are fine lines between love and hate and genius and maddness.
A man that smart at that young an age, 30 years old when he becomes a world chess champ, yet in 34 years he fell into a maddness so deep he became a raging self hating Jew, hated the land of his birth, basically hated the world.

I had a very distant cousin I once met at a family function that when I spoke to him I saw was a raving lunatic.  Only later did I find out that he was maintaining a 4.0 GPA at MIT and was already getting mid-6 figure offers for jobs with many big name companies as an engineer when one night he snapped and now he mops floors in a school.  And no, drugs were not a factor.

Not really sure how to end this post other than to say that I often wonder how many of the of the greatest minds of this and the last century are babbling idiots somewhere.   Many years ago I was told my IQ and it is higher than the average bear, and KP often tells me I need to realize that not everyone thinks like I do.
.....maybe I need to remember that more.

And maybe that is the key....the maddness comes when you forget that.....remember that not everyone thinks like you while also knowing that there are others that consider you as stupid.  Also remembering that brains and high IQ do not always translate to common sense(and no I am not saying I am some super genius, just that I am working at a higher than normal clip, so don't get mad)

I think genius's go mad because of the pressure placed upon them from an early age...just my opinion, I like to think that I am fairy intelligent, but I would never want to be a genius, I don't envy those poor souls at all...
