After we finished dinner I began to finish my final but was starting to fall asleep. Then I was greeted with a phone call from the campaign to push voters to vote. The person informed me that I needed to vote; I informed her that I had already done so. She informed me that they needed help informing people to vote. I informed her that I attended the rally earlier in the day and was a supporter. I then proceeded to think how I could help further.
I asked the rep. if they needed help making phone calls, she replied we could always use some help. I'll be there in a few was my reply. I figured I could dust off my customer service/telemarketing skills and make a few phone calls for the campaign. The drive was only about 15 minutes. When I arrived I asked Useinmorya about the process and she proceeded to hand me a script, phone, and a seat at a make shift table.
She was very polite and I began making phone calls. One of the first calls I made I was greeted with the voice of a African-American male and I immediately cut the script. I explained my name and reason for calling and I asked if he had voted already. He informed me that he had done so. I then explained the process of caucusing and he informed me that he would. I thanked him for his time and he closed with a "right on, right on." I thought to myself this would be easy; however, the next phone calls were not as pleasant as the first.
Almost a tone of disrespect was heard in the voices of many respondents. "I'm sure ain't votin for Obama, I'm not voting for anyone who doesn't respect the American flag, and I'm for Hillary," were many of the respondents. The calls gave me new insight into the minds of the American people as a whole. The democratic process is amazing. If your candidate has more votes in the end then you win. It seems as simple as that, but as you can see with the challenges of the Florida primary, it's not as simple.
As I rounded off my phone calls, tallied my sheets, and calculated the results, the GOP out weighed the democratic voters. I thought it would be the case. With the system in Texas, theGOP can vote in the democratice primaries, so the results will be amazing this evening. I finished around nine while ketk 56, channel 11 was finishing a segment.
As I returned home I was greeted with another phone call. My previous counselor from TJC called and stated that she had saw me on T.V. during a segment that had just showed. I explained I was helping with the campaign to get voters to the booths. She thanked me for the service and I thanked her calling. After the phone call I was informed by wife that my uncle had called; she informed him that I was making calls. He had stated that he was glad to see some taking an active role in helping the campaign.
