I awoke this morning to the news the dollar is at an all time low against the EURO. The news was news. After the headline passed, the news of a town hall meeting at 8:45 with McCain in Tyler was announced. I decided to attend the event. As I walked into the Tyler Rose Garden I saw the number of supporters of McCain. The room was packed.
After waiting about fifteen minutes McCain made his entrance to the stage. He began his speech with a few jokes, then proceeded to explain his position on terrorism, economy, healthcare, and others. Also, the first reference towards any democratic candidate was towards Obama and his response to a question from the debate the prior night. The reference was to Obama's stance on withdrawing troops from Iraq, and the potentia of sending them back if Al Qadea formed a base in Iraq. He proceeded to explain Al Qadea was already in Iraq and if the troops are withdrawn they'll take over Iraq, and Obama's stance basically did not make sense. The war and all the issues are complexx.
The politics of the Grand Old Party combined with the unrelentness of the democratic competition is fierce. After listening for about 30 minutes I left the event with a new perspective on the political regime. The number of school age children was something that caught my eye. I don't know if they skipped school, or came with parents, but the number was significant. Also, the number of younger school age children was significant. I guess the importance of politics is instilled young.
The last time I visited the Rose Garden I was performing service for the community. I guess I'm still performing service for the community in a different position.
