 Family Business
Last night, our family enjoy a really nice dinner at "No Signboard Restaurant" down at Vivocity. We were there to celebrate my younger brother and father's 63rd birthday. The prawns were amazing!

After dinner, we actually spent some time standing outside the restaurant, just chatting. My sis' boyfriend was present at the dinner (it was his treat, the whole dinner, which costs about $500 plus I believe). Anyway, the men stood at one corner, listening to my dad share about his life experience and how he broke through in his business.

To be very honest, when I heard my dad talking last night, it felt like I was hearing him for the first time. When my dad first starting his contracting business, he was merely making hundreds of thousands a single month. It was tough.

But in the recent months, I began to notice changes in his lifestyle. He is still working hard every single night, but boy, he has the ability to invest in a Canon EOS D90 camera, it must not be cheap. He bought the family a brand new Philips Plasma Screen TV. He upgraded our home PC, so that my younger brother can enjoy his past-time, playing PC games with high graphics requirements.

Last night, as I stood there listening to my dad share, giving him 100% of my attention and focus, and making myself more interested in what he is doing, I began to develop a whole new perspective towards my dad's business. In the recent months and weeks, my dad has began earning not just thousands a month, he's making tenths of thousands in weeks. Certain orders that come to him are worth a lot of money.

As I thought about what he told me a year ago, he actually wanted to offer me a place in his company. To help him in the IT side. I refused it because I had totally no interests in mechanical engineering 10 months ago. But last night, I suddenly had a keen interests in what he is doing.

Well, I must say, I'm still not interested in the mechanical engineering part, rather, I became interested in what my dad is trying to establish. I began to understand that even at his prime of 63, he doesn't want to stop building businesses. This is the 4th or 5th business that he has tried to establish since we lost our properties business in the 1997 Asian Economic Crisis. Thus, I must say, I'm very very deeply impressed with my dad's fighting spirit.

Putting myself in his position, having a successful contractor business at the age of 63, yet having no one to take over it, I'll be concerned, I'll still be working long hours into the night, and trying to earn as much money as I can.

Last night, it sparked a deep interest in my heart, maybe its time I stop thinking only about myself and what I like to do. I want to be interested in what my dad is doing. If this business is so successful now, I want to help him continue the legacy.

So, last night, I expressed interests to my dad to let me work with him on a 3 months probation. I will help him to complete the Shopping Cart website which he has been wanting to get done for more than a year. And after that, I'll help him manage the IT side and Sales side of his business. After all, IT programming is my strong skill set, and Sales is my gift/talent.

So, yes, I'm officially working for my dad as a Sales & IT Engineer.
