WTF is up with "god"?
Ok, I don't mean to be discriminatory or offensive (that much) with what I say, but I think I am entitled to my own opninon, and you can have yours as long and you don't go around being annoying about it. so don't take what I say all that personally, because I will like you just the same as anyone else.

So, in my first entry about suicide and my fight with depression, I got two comments. They have been deleted now for the sake of the commenters, but here is what they said,
  1. Okay, look I got to tell you a few things. #1 my brother is going thru that. He is in his 30's and he has had several suicide attempts. But reading your blog, I noticed that you intend to be around becuz you talked about when you grow up and being a marriage counselor. So I dont think you really wnat to kill yourself. I am guessing you are either in high school or junior high. Yeah, school sucks, but so does alot of other stuff, like cutting your self. What is that going to help? I do not know much about depression, except I have been there, and the things I have been through would put most people on drugs. But God never gives a person more than they can handle. So, whatever hardships you are facing, you can deal with it. Find your inner strength. In my religious belief commiting suicide is a major sin. ANd if one does this action, he/she will face torture in the life after death. WEll, I hope this comment gives you some positive thought as this is my intention.
  2. Please seek medical attention from a different doctor. I was diagnosed w/ maj. depress. in 1993 and rode that terrible train until 2000, when I gave up and tried to kill myself. Thank God my husband woke up, but thats another story. After that I went to see a different Dr. and what a big change, after trying different meds we finally got it right. I'm been diagnosed Bi Polar. But now 7 yrs later I'm great, know ups or downs. But I am on Meds, and believe me I would never miss one, because I never want to go where depression takes you. Pray ask God for help and seek more/different med. help, someone will get it right, don't ever give up. I'm proof you can win this.
They are both nice, thoughtful, and actually helpful comments about my situation, but, reading these, I could not help but ask, "what the hell is this obsesion with god?" Personally, I don't beleave any of that crap the church says about jesus and all that, and I can't see how other people can too. I mean how can people refuse to believe evolution or other scientific facts? These things have proven evidence in the real world! There is no heaven or hell. Why do people have to believe these stories to make themselves feel more secure? What is wrong with believing that when you die you decompose and that is it? No afterlife, or soul, but just nothing. Are people that egotistical that they have to immortalize themselves with a neverending spirit? Are we that fascists to use the concept of hell to strike fear into innocent people, in order to force them into our beliefs? Or, is it that people are so clueless that they need a fake book to tell them not to kill people or to be nice to people? Or, maybe it is used as an excuse FOR discriminating against others. This crap isn't real and I am not in favor people using god as an all-curing medicine, or an excuse to hate homosexuals, or the laws above all laws. These people need to get a sense of reality without a false shield protecting them, because, when they do get hurt, it will be much harder then if they had admitted that the shield is not there.

Again, don't hate me or get offended. You can have your opnions and I can have mine. I don't mind people expressing their opnions, but please do it in a respectful way.

whoo hooo bullseye!!!!

Walruskid- You appear to be a twerp who apparently needs his ass kicked one good time. Where are your parents? As far as God goes, I would not be where I am in life today if it weren't for God helping. You can't move through this life by yourself and it's ignorant to think so. There was no"bang" and then suddenly life on the planet. As far as heaven and hell are concerned...there is something fair better than this life. This is just the beginning. Surely you can honestly think that everything's over with a ride in a hearse??

Seeing is not beleiving, beleiving is seeing...

So, you would rather follow an unknown path blindly than create your own?

And I appoligize for the way I may have sounded. I kind of got cought up in a rant and, re-reading my post, realized I did sound rather belittling and accidently sterotyped people that follow the bible. Please accept my apology, and know that I respect your beliefs. It takes a certain kind of person to have faith in something they have never seen, but my point was that some people take advantage of that attribute in others, or get too faithful to the point of recklessness.

In response to the Buddhist comment:
Buddhism believes in no god. Buddah was not a god, but just an enlightened person. Enlilghtened does not mean he is a god, and anyone can reach enlightenment through an unlimited number of paths. Buddhism is a religion where everyone is responsible for everything they do, and that includes where they end up in life. It stresses acceptance, kindness, and understanding of the world we live in.

I wil give you three reasons why we know God is real, and His word is true,
[1] The power of the risen Jesus, our lives have been supernaturaly changed by Jesus being our personal saviour.
Jesus said, eternal life is knowing God and Jesus, when you know someone there is no way you can doubt Him The Bible says, "know the lord and see that He is good" If you put your faith in Him you will know that God is real.
[2] The power of the Holy Spirit, He gives us power to live a Christian life, Also He gives us nine gifts. three that say something, tongues, interpretation of tongues and prophecy. Three that reveal something, the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and the descerning of spirits, [that is when we see Angels or evil spirits. and three that do something, wonder working faith, Gifts of healings and working of miracles. [3] God confirmes His word, Not only is that proved by the reality of the risen christ and the working of the gifts, but also the Bible says, God confirms His word with signs following. Jesus said, these signs shall follow them that believe, in my name they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. I have seen God heal the sick, cast out devils and do miracles. I speak with new tongues, every time I speak in new tongues I know Jesus is glorified, for the Bible says, "The Holy Ghost was not yet given, for Jesus is not yet glorified" But now Jesus is glorified and He has sent the Holy Ghost to the Church as a proof that Jesus is real. A person with an experience is never at the mercy of the person with an argument. YOU HAVE AN ARGUMENT, I HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, I WIN

I myself am a believer of Jesus... What seem's crazy to me though is that every time Christians feel they are being pushed against the wall they try to offer a thousand explanations and a thousand truths for every thing they do.

At times I am really saddened by Christians attempt at explaining everything. I know it might not seem like much but I apologize for the way we come across. I realize that often times we even come across as hating homosexuals but I can tell you that this is so far from the way things are suppose to be.

If you want to know what Christianity is about try reading through the Gospels and figuring it out on your own. The reality of it is that many of us are doing a poor job of representing Jesus. I know that many people don't feel comfortable around us but this was not the case with Jesus. Even the prostitutes felt really comfortable around Jesus. We claim to be changed but many of us don't live that way at all.

I also want to let you know that I will be praying for you. I know that for you prayer might not make much sense but I really believe it's powerful. I guess it's my way of caring about you because I don't know what else I can do.

If you want to look some more at reasons why I can do nothing but believe in Jesus I could give you another book to read as well. It called, "Case for Christ" I wouldn't mind shipping it to you or even paying the shipping charges on it if I could figure out what they were.

I understand that you are entitled to have your say about God. Remember that we are no different from you when we have our rights to say whatever we think about God or not. You and all of us have different roads in our lives which we have seen or recognized something from our experiences as what they are to us in our unique sight, feeling, or thought. There's no right or wrong in our lives. What u said about God and what we said about God all makes it special that we can really make use of them together to our own advantage that we can have them all or one or two. Most of us that I can see usually would come up with one as for one religion or one nation.. or sometimes two. Not many of us can really think about more various ways of seeing abt God or the religion because we accept easily from our own experience to put something we can use. So, when I read about yours as well as other comments in regards to your comment, I think about my own too. I do not have anything against u or anyone else because for one thing that I have learned something from you how you validate from your experience to seeing abt God and from other people's experiences. I, for one thing, believe in one higher existence as so called God, Yahew, Light, higher one, and all that whatever is called is same for me to see that there's one higher above us. I have often felt there's something about us in this world that there's a purpose that we have this kind of life. I have listened to myself and ask myself a lot of times when I dont understaqnd something. There's always the silence and it doesn't really mean there's nothing. Just like when I think about the spaciousness of a room, I don't always see nothingness out of this room. There's substance out of the space anyhow.. The same when I listen to the silence, I see this as a purpose to something that I need to see. You can say this is full of crap but thats ok. I m wondering if you have ever listened to yourself in the darkness and really think abt something. Do U? It doesn't only mean seeing abt God. It is about seeing myself and then seeing more.. It can take more time for some people or It can never happen to some.. It depends on the individual, nothing at all from anything else, that I think. Thank U for sharing yourself and I appreciate it. The same goes to everyone else :)

You asked people to voice their opinions in a respectful way, yet you refused to follow your own request? Everyone has their opinions, this is mine:
Different parts of the THEORY of Evolution have been proven wrong countless times, especially in these last years. Watch it when you call my faith a 'Story'. You called Christians 'egotistical', when you yourself seem to be the one with such a big ego he cant even humble himself before God, who created you, you ungrateful fool. God created everything you see, if you want to believe some 'Bang' happened and the world appeared with its breathtaking sunsets, if you want to think a human being- so complex and miraculous- came from a bunch of monkeys, then maybe you should get out of your own little bubble and look around you. Are you that blind to NOT see the works of God? You spoke boldly to call the Bible a 'fake book'. You also spoke naively. The books of the Bible are correct, and speak wisdom maybe even above your years. I'm coming off as rude, and guess what I'm a Christian. NO ONE is perfect though, and for you to think we condemn those who are is also spoken naively. Mormons, live to be perfect and thats their goal, but Christians- we recognize that ppl are imperfect, and NO one will ever be perfect. I myself have 2 sisters that are lesbian. I love them just as much as i love my other sister who isn't. I don't discriminate. It seems to me that it is you, you're the one discriminating. You discriminate against people you don't even know, calling us egotistical clueless individuals. I'm sorry you feel this way about Christians, judging us, stereotyping us. Life sucks dude, I'm still a young person and I've had my encounters with being hurt deeply. But you know what? It wasn't my friends that gave me comfort- since i had moved, it wasn't my family who gave me comfort- they had their own problems, it was my God, my faith in my God. He doesn't promise happiness along the way in life, he promises the happy ending though. You may think that we need a reality check, but before you point the fingers at others, reevaluate yourself.
Thank you for your time, hope I didn't offend you, I don't hate you- I just don't respect you either, i think the feeling is mutual eh?

I will never ever be ashamed of Jesus but I'm getting ashamed of those who represent his name. It really hurts my Spirit reading how judgemental we actually are. I have to keep reminding myself that I know Christians who have been transformed by God because reading what other Christians post on here really shames me.

I truly believe that many Christians think they are better then other people because they have some how figured something out. Isn't this something that really bugged Jesus. The Pharisee's knew all the answers but Jesus showed them that they still weren't good enough.

I don't think Christianity was ever meant to be a theological game. How is that any basis for righteousness. It seems to me like Jesus got mad at the Pharisees because they were too busy trying to please him with all the right answers that they forgot to honour him with their hearts. And the Pharisess were the religous people of the day.

Are Christians really less egotistical then non-Christians? It doesn't seem like it. I know some great ones but I can't believe how prideful, arrogant and stubburn Christians can be when we are suppose to live life's that are to be set apart.

I can't believe that God still found me when this is the picture of Christianity we are giving to the world. For that I am ever greatful.

First of all, I am sorry that these people’s opinions have caused to look at God this way. If you were having suicidal thoughts, that is NOT what a Christ-like person should say to you to handle it.
First with the first person that commented. I agree that he sounds like he is still in school, but what you said was out of line. Yes, you may have been through some things, but you should not take out your anger on him. Not everyone can handle things so well, even though it sounds like you haven’t got a handle on what you have been through yet. You do not know what walruskid has been through and should not judge him. I have been through foster care, sexual, verbal, and physical abuse, and many, many other things. But that does not give me the right to say that others should just deal with their problems because I had to. And I’d also like to add, lot of times people cover up sadness with anger. Just think about that.
For the second person that commented. I am sorry that it takes meds for you to be able to function on a daily basis. If you really do believe in God, then you should know that God can conquer your depression and you don’t have to go through that. Science is not the answer, because so many times when science failed God stepped in and showed his power. I know of many people that had cancer and was miraculously healed. My prayers will be with you.
And finally, for walruskid. There are obviously many things that you do not understand about what it truly is to be a Christian. Here are some things that might interest you:
1. there is a lot more evidence (scientific and historic) that Jesus Christ lived, died, then rose again. It is a fact among the “learned” peoples.
2. Christians do not hate homosexuals. They love the person, even if they are against the sin. Think about it this way, you can have a friend that believes in reincarnation even if you don’t. Or, you can have a friend that drinks or smokes even if you don’t.
3. Christians often get hurt in and out of the church. I have been hurt many times in my church. The fact is, people are going to fail you. The thing that Christians can take comfort in is that God will never fail you. This is not something you can understand unless you have “experienced” God.
God said, taste me and see if I am good. I have tasted and found that He is indeed good. I am not trying to force you to believe what I believe or anything like that, but why not taste Him and see if He is good yourself? What do you have to lose? Here’s a song that I really love and I’d like you to read the lyrics. I will email them to you. I will remember you in my prayers. I hope you work things our. You can email me anytime at saragreene352@yahoo.com if you have questions or just want a friend to talk to. The thing about God is that He won’t give you too much too handle. He’ll find a way to help you someway, sometimes by sending someone to you. Maybe He sent me to you. Anyways, I am here with you, as a friend, not someone with all the answers, because I by no means have all the answers.

Sarah, I appreciate your comment... I really do. I don't want to make this a my view vs. your view type of thing because I can tell you are trying your best to show love which is supper cool. I just wanted to throw out my idea about something I disagree with.

The point you made that I disagree with is where you throw the whole idea of medication out the window.

It is hard to know how God works. Like you said maybe sometimes he lets other people enter our lives to help us through things. Could it not be true that he has also allowed us to live in a place where medication is accesable to us? I think God has really blessed us who live in a place that has a good medical system. After all medication has obviously helped people. I am not a doctor but I know that we all have different chemicals in our brain that affect our feelings and that medication can help out with this.

I see medication as an offshoot of how science has actually helped us. I do agree with your point about how science helps prove the existence of God though.

Science cannot show us everything there is to know in this world. For example how could science explain love to us? I don't think it could do it justice. I also know that this world is much more spiritual then sceince could ever express. I don't believe that this makes God in contrast to sceince.

Even the parts of a human being are so complicated and complex that it points to there having to be a creator or something in charge. If not then this entire world just happened by chance.

Beyond that I believe that the creator of this world really loves me. Do I need it God as a crutch. Yes, but I hope God is much more then a crutch to me. Christianity would be hard to believe in blindly. I am not saying we can figure everything out but it is not a religion without proof. There are still times I doubt God but in these times I am able to look back at everything that I have seen and I can do nothing but believe in his existence. I follow this belief up with a choice to love him.

I don't have much more to say. I expressed most of my other opnions in my fourth post "WTF is up with "god" Continued". I just wanted to say thank you for all you comments, positive or negative. I especially wanted to give a thanks to manhattonproject for their comments. I can honestly say that you are one of the VERY few people who has actually made me think about looking into the bible more than I already have. I encourage everyone to look at his/her comments and notice that they come from a Christian yet share some of my apprehension towards Christians. Again, thank you. People are still encouraged to post comments, but just know that I probably will not be commenting any more on this post.
