Signature Analyses of Barack Obama and George W. Bush

There are a couple of unique things about Barack Obama’s signature at first glance. The first thing is at his first name and his last name run together…there is no separation between the two names. This indicates a strong sense of identity in that there is no disconnect between how he sees himself as a person and his heritage. He also displays a fluid connection between the letters of his name which tells me he has the ability to speak eloquently and use words creatively to express himself optimally. However, the connection is somewhat illegible (what is referred to as threaded writing - it looks like a piece of thread that is coming loose). This indicates he operates at a fast pace. The two large first letters of his name indicate he has a healthy ego (in psychological terms, he has healthy defenses) and a strong sense of self. The other striking characteristic is the large O that is split down the middle, creating to halves to a whole. This tells me he is a balanced individual, who has the ability to be fair, impartial, and just. He is someone who is like the rock of Gibraltar…he is not someone who would falter in an emergency. Even in the case of two very strong opposing sides, he stands firm, and grounded in a strong sense of self, ruled by logic as opposed to emotion and impulse. His O is like a symbol he has developed to represent the fact that he is making his mark on the world in a big way.
Overall, Barack Obama’s signature sample reveals someone who possesses strong leadership qualities, above average confidence and self-esteem, and pretty much everything one would like to see in a president.

There are striking differences between Barack Obama’ signature and George W Bush’s signature. While they both have large first letters of their first and last names, the letters in Bush’s signature are disjointed and angular. The lines between letters stop short of completion and there is a wide right margin. These features tell me George Bush appears to be more dependent on his family name (George –Bush) than on himself (little w) for his ego and public image. From a psychological perspective, the little w in between his first and last name which may indicate a hidden aspect of self that is unsure, uncertain and lacks confidence. Instead of relying on himself for confidence and self esteem, he appears to rely on others (more than likely family) for his identity and justification for his actions.
The disjointed letters and angularity also point to his leadership skills. He falls short of his ideal by setting goals lower than are achievable and hesitates to commit himself to take action with regards to the future. The open spaces also point to his need for socializing and getting his ideas across to others. The illegibility indicates he seems confused at times, and lacks the oratory skills of Obama, often straying from the topic, losing thoughts midstream.
Finally, the far right slant and inflated G loop indicates a person who is highly emotional, with the ability for strong feelings of love and dislike. The opening brace strokes indicate someone who carries resentments and has difficulty letting go of past experiences that are negative. The angle of the lines, combined with variation in size indicates someone who is moody and unpredictable. At the same time, the lower waviness of the baseline letters in his last name indicate he is highly adaptable and someone who can roll with the punches.

How to Analyze Your Handwriting
Handwriting analysis is a powerful tool for learning about yourself. Just by analyzing a handwriting sample, you can learn what makes you tick, your personality characteristics, and what potential obstacles stand in your way. You can also use handwriting analysis as a means of finding a compatible partner or as a forensic tool for developing criminal profiles and cracking forgery cases.
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
Things you'll need: handwriting sample1 The first thing to look for when analyzing someones handwriting is the big picture. Notice patterns and other things that stick out to you. Do you dot your "I"s with circles? Does your handwriting slant to the left or to the right?
2 The second thing to look for is evidence of your emotional energy, which is a combination of physical and mental energy levels. This is revealed by the amount of pressure that is used when writing. Writers with heavy pressure are usually highly successful. People who write with average pressure are somewhat successful, and those who write with light pressure typically avoid energy draining situations.
3 The third step is to determine the baseline of the writing. The baseline is the real or imaginary line where the small letters rest. This can tell you is you are emotionally stable or not. A normal baseline should be slightly wavy. A person with a straight baseline is tense and over disciplined. A very wavy baseline signals a person who is on an emotional roller coaster.
4 The fourth thing to look for is the size of the writing, which is an indicator of an individual's ability to concentrate. If you write small, you are likely very detail oriented and have no problems concentrating on a task. Large writing means you are easily distracted, and normal size indicates an average ability to concentrate.
5 Other things to consider include the general shape of the stroke. For example, circular handwriting indicates a highly emotional nature. Angular handwriting with sharp points indicates aggressiveness, directness, and high energy, and square handwriting indicates a real world, practical based approach.
* Squiggles and irregular strokes indicate an artistic and non standard approach
Tips & WarningsIt is best to use a sample which is written on unlined paper.
