| Enhancements to the Thoughts.com are on hold |
Updated Monday September 5: The enhancements are on hold for now, and won't be implemented this week.
We are going to implement a few enhancements to Thoughts.com next week, including a few modifications to the user interface. You'll notice a few of the changes as soon as you see them.
The most noticeable enhancement will be the new landing page (the thoughts.com page) that was designed by Jennifer, our incredibly talented web designer. Jennifer also designed the newest theme (you see it here on my blog page) and will be contributing more designs during the next several months as we get ready for some major enhancements to the entire thoughts.com site. But back to the new landing page -- the new landing page design still works the same way -- you will sign in to Thoughts.com exactly the same way you've been doing it.
The next most noticeable change will be to the menu bar that is displayed on every page. The new version looks great and is easier to use for both members and visitors. The new menu bar won't have links for Photos, Videos, Polls, Surveys, or Groups, but all of those will still available for you. Keep reading to find out how to access all that great content.
We are also going to make some modifications to the FAQ page and Tour page.
Not so noticeable, but very important, will be a change to the My Controls panel -- that vertical menu you see on your home page and profile page. The changes include adding the links that are being removed from the menubar. So that's how you can get to all the content that you enjoy -- go to your home page or your profile page, then use the vertical My Controls panel for the stuff you want -- the photos, videos, podcasts, polls, surveys, and groups.
For example, suppose you want to browse through the photos. Here's how you'd do it:
1. Go to your home page or your profile page and look in the My Controls section for the
My Photos link.
2. Click on the My Photos link. The page will refresh with the My Photos section at the top of
the My Controls panel.
3. Click on the Browse Photos link.
That's it. If you wanted to upload photos, you'd do the same first two steps, but for the third step, just choose the Upload Photos link.
It's the same basic idea for videos, podcasts, polls, and surveys -- just look in the My Controls panel for the type of content you want to browse or upload, then click on the link for the particular type of content, wait for the page refresh, and then click on the link for what you want to do (browse or upload).
If you are here for the blogs, you'll notice that the new menubar has a pulldown for all the related functions. You can read the current blogs or popular posts or random blogs, take a look at what the Top 100 bloggers are writing about, write a blog post, manage your categories, and more, all from the new menubar.
Same thing if you participate in the forums. The new menubar has a pulldown for Forums that contains the forum-related functions.
The final change is that the News link won't be available. We are currently considering a few options of how to deliver the news to you in a way that will make it more conversational.
