Hmmm...Good topic, I have never thought about this. Being a 51 yr old female, my first inclination is to answer, NO! This will never be acceptable in the corporate world; however, because the business world has become much more accepting of certain appearances in past years, when i really think about it, i beleive just about anything will be!
Now, having said that, I will tell you how I feel about it. When I go into a resturant or a fast food place and I am served by a person who has alot of piercings that are visible, i personally am disgusted by them. THe same with tattoos. They offend me, but I NEVER treat the waitperson with disrespect. It does however affect my decision to go back to that place. That's just me though |

I'm not really crazy about a lot of piercings on the face. And I've actually had several jobs that don't allow facial piercings or visible tattoos. At one I wasn't allowed to wear more than 2 earrings in each ear and they had to be no bigger than a dime. It's respectable, and I did what I had to do. I wore retainers in my nose & tongue and you couldn't even tell I had piercings.
I just think people are misjudged because they have piercings & tattoos. And I'm sure some people do fit the stereotype, but I know a lot of people dont. Knowning that I have 5 tattoos and 13 piercings would you expect me to have a college GPA of 3.96? |

Well, if this was 10-15 years ago and I was answering your question, I would say I would be surprised. NOt anymore. I am proud to say that I have grown and have become a better person by trying to not judge a book by its cover! That's not to say I still don't revert back to those 15 second first meeting judgements! But I am working on it all the time.
I agree that people are sometimes misjudged because of body art, but I believe that has more to do with how a person carries themselves and how they present themselves intellectually. |

thanks! im really proud of it, & ive really worked my butt off to have it. Hard work pays off!
I do have to say tho, I am guilty of judging people once in a while. I try not to because I know that I'm judged for my body art, but i guess it's just human nature really. |

This is a true story. About 8 months ago, I was waiting for my cup of coffee at our local small town coffee shop. A young man came up to wait in line behind me and when I glanced at him he was covered in tatoos. I said hello and for some reason, something told me to pay for whatever he was getting. When I paid for my coffee, I asked the girl to take out for whatever his order was. He looked at me and said "did you just pay for my coffee"? I told him yes, and he thanked me with tears in his eyes. I told him to pay it forward some day.
Now, the point of this story is that if I had shunned away from this man, because of his appearance, I would have missed out on something. I beleive that man needed that unexpected act of kindness. |

I personaly perfer peircings cause you can change your mind later... and day to day after they are healed. I take most of my piercings out when I'm just not feeling them anymore, and put then back in when I need a 'me' boost.
I wanted to have dreadlocks put in for a long time now, but everyone keeps telling me no one will take me seriously if I do. I think it's a horrible way to see people, but I find myself dressing a certain way when I am in a certain mood and I want to attract certain people... I guess even if people really try to not judge people by what they look like, its impossible not to. |

| im all for ink and piercings. i guess people will make assumptions regardless. i have both tattoos and piercings and i think it is more accepted than u think. im in my mid 30's and where im at it is very common. allthough some jobs dont allow it , but my thought is its your body and its your choice to do as you please. i think your skin is a blank canvas. check out Kat von D. not only is she hot!!!! but shes very talented too.she made a life from her gift. Im looking forward to my next tattoo |

| I wasn't saying that they aren't accepted. I know plently people on a PERSONAL level accept them. I was mainly talking about a PROFESSIONAL level. I mean if you stop & think about it...if a lawyer is all tatted up they aren't going to be taken as serious in court, even if they are the most brilliant lawyer you've ever met. |

| If i am a business owner, and someone applies for a job covered in tatoos and piercings, but are well qualified, I may offer the job, IF the person could agree not to wear the piercings and cover the tattoos. |

| I am all for tattos and piercings. I believe that its your body and what you think looks nice is all that matters. I also think that people take you at face value and see the piercings and dont bother to get to know the person you really are. And to me thats all that counts. |
