 [agnost vs atheist]
Today I changed my religion section in the "about me" from Atheist to Agnost.
For the sole reason that I don't think I am qualified to decide if there actually is a god or not.
I don't believe in a higher order, but I don't say that it is impossible. Though I think it would be close to impossible and I totally don't agree with the goal religion was and is being used to contribute to weaker human needs. Like greed and power.
I don't say that I don't have respect towards religious people, if they use their religion to get themselves stronger. That is a very good thing.
I use myself to reflect on, since it won't be a god that will make me pure, but myself.
Pure can be dark, pure can be light. Pure should be the closest to being "correct" as is ethical possible.
I am spiritual to the part that I use meditation to find myself back to basics, to release all the things that get me off track.
Though being off track can be very educative and actually enjoyable. (why do I automatically think of the cliché "it's good to be bad"? hahaha xD)

A random thought.

i agree with you. i've been agnostic for a very long time. i'm just sick of religious people making judgments like - i'm going to hell - and what not, and 1 religion is correct but everyone else is going to hell. who really know anyways?

I respect people and their religions even though I dont agree with any of them. I agree with the wiccans....... believing in many Gods and Goddesses.... not just 1 God. I dont believe in hell. It's you as a person who gets you into heaven, not what you believe in! If your a good or decent person, then you will be in heaven when you pass on.

I agree with you, thats the reason why I am agnostic. I grew up in a catholic family though but I just don't really believe in a god... but who knows, maybe there is one... I doubt it, but you never know...

Happy to see the reactions on this topic.
As you say, you have to believe in something, even something as small as yourself, or the people around you, to be continuous.

Though it would be interesting also to have the view on my view of a Christian, Muslim, or a whatever other religion-orientated person.

I used to be agnostic, but now I'm not sure....

Personally, I bridle at people with concrete assurances that their belief system is right - whether its some judaeo-christian sect, atheism (step forward Richard Dawkins), fox-hunting, interior design, whatever. I think deep-down I regard people who refuse the notion they may be wrong as being deeply flawed (but I'm open to being corrected on that).

I suppose what I'm fumbling towards is that doubt is healthy, but the absence of all doubt is just creepy.

I agree.
Absence of doubt is, for me, a synonym to disappearing slowly into a black hole of certainty (and oblivion?).
Doubt keeps you on the edge and those eyes open.

Sometimes I do envy people that are self assured that they are right.
I constantly think about other possibilities, which makes me look uncertain or not honest towards some. As in "make up your mind". (don't get me wrong, I do have some strong opinions that won't easily change)

I make up my mind. Every day. :)
