| I was seventeen. (Short fictional story) |
I was seventeen when the world fell apart.
There were no humans but I in all of the forsaken land, but there were plenty of animals. I didn't know what had happened, because I was asleep when the storm hit. All I could think at the time was that the humans had finally encountered something they couldn't adapt to.
It took me a year and lots of wandering to find that I wasn't completely alone on the estranged earth. There was a boy, only a couple of years older than me. He was called Jeremiah.
He too, had been dreaming when the storm came.
We wandered the world, eventually falling in love. He had loved someone before me and the end of the human world. Her name was Charlotte. He said he loved her more than the sun, the sky, and the moon. She was more beautiful to him than all the stars in space.
He missed her, but I didn't mind.
Comets flew above us nearly every night. Stars fell by the hundreds. We stayed mostly in the forests, going to the beach every so often.
It was so beautiful, the destruction of the human race. No more wars, no more doubts, no more disappointments, no more false ideas. Just you and the ground and the sky and the sea. Nothing to come between you and the your dreams. It's hard to deny the truth once you hear it, and for the very first time, everything was clear.
I'll finish this later. Just a daydream I had riding back from the beach. Thought I'd share.
