 Vaccine Side Effects
As swine influenza sweeps our country and rest of the planet, public awareness powered by media, leads to people searching out early surveillance and intervention on their own, in an attempt to head off major sickness. You can't blame them for wanting to protect themselves and their families, as over one million cases have been documented in the U.S. Alone ; so many that the CDC has give up counting. There are 2 medicines on the market that have been proven to be effective against swine flu, Relenza and Tamiflu. These medicines need to be administered within a couple of days of the commencement of symptoms ( which last roughly a week ), and are said to shorten the duration of symptoms by about a couple of days. Because early detection is critical for the efficiency of these drugs, fast detection is required. Many manufacturers are at present working on versions of a quick H1N1 test to permit early detection in seconds, vs days as is with traditional virus testing.

The difficulty is, the preliminary results of these kinds of these tests have been poor. It was determined that too many fake negative results, as many as half, occurred on a regular basis. In other words, the test did not notice known swine influenza in lab conditions, meaning a negative test at the doctor's office wouldn't essentially guarantee that you do not actually have the swine flu. This is critical as the patients at higher risk that truly need the medication, may not be treated due to false negative results.
the base line is, at that point we don't have a fast swine influenza test. Plus, the seasonal influenza and swine flu symptoms are generally indistinguishable and close in duration. Still [**] symptoms of both should only last roughly a week. Either way, if your going to go to the doctor to get him to write you a prescription for Tamiflu, go the 1st or second day you get symptoms, otherwise the medication won't be handy.
remember that the media fuels paranoia and misguided behavior, so use your best judgement before running to the ER or your doctors office. Remember during the first gulf war and after 911 when gas masks were flying off the shelves of U.S. For the flu, it may just be better to take 1 or 2 days off, take a few tablets of ibuprofen and stay in bed, and catch up on your favorite TV shows.
