RFID is being widely used to track one-way shipments from supplier to user (i.e. Walmart) however there is still a relatively untouched area of closed loop container systems which can also utilize the same technology.  Containers which are re-used can be tracked when they are full and empty to improve logistics and production efficiency for manufacturers.
