 My take on God--What's yours?

As a college junior, I had to expound, to the tune of 20 pages, on what I believe about God.  I managed to do it, but it didn't make sense and didn't really capture my true thoughts on the subject.  I think that in the 12 years that have passed, I've changed quite a bit.

I'm going to go through what I believe and what I don't.  What I don't believe has influenced me just as much, if not more, than what I do believe.  I would love to hear what everyone else thinks and I love to discuss.  Just please keep it civil.  Religion and spirituality are such touchy subjects that I'm a little hesitant about this.

So.

I believe in Nature.  I think God is synonymous with Nature.  Balance is good.  The world and the planet are here and it is our duty as human beings to take care of it.  I believe that life is precious but that sometimes it's your turn.  Just like the wildebeest who trips, breaks a leg and gets eaten by a lion, so do we become victims of accidents.  It's sad but it's not personal.

I believe that diversity is good.  It is, in the end, what may ensure our survival as a species.  It takes all kinds of people and non-human animals to make the world go round.  Race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, intelligence, physical prowess, beliefs, political orientation, social status, etc.  The degrees to which each of these traits apply to anyone person is wonderful.

I believe that Jesus was a great man who lived a wonderful, admirable life.  I don't believe he was divine.  I don't believe that God tests us or punishes us.  I don't believe in Hell.  I don't believe that men "image" God or Jesus better than women.  I don't believe that men are in any way closer to God than women.  I don't believe in being told what to believe.

So, what do you believe?  What do you think?

the first person Jesus admitted He was Messiah to was a woman. the last person He made provision for from the cross was a woman. the first person He showed Himself to after the resurrection was a woman. so my God does not favor men. God doesn't need to test us. He knows what we would score. we test ourselves and grade harshly. so anyhow, i agree with you on a LOT of stuff. :-)

I believe I still have a lot of questions and I believed that because we are human and can't translate anything literal that the bible is mostly "MAN" made up things. I don't believe everything is a "Lie" but I do believe that those who wrote it, wrote it to serve their human purpose. I believe that I"m just as worthy as a man and he is just as worthy as me....we are clearly different and can do and not do different things. I believe that we are all meant to work as a "Team" and until we learn to do that....we will never amount to anything. I do believe that if we all tried to be like Jesus the man...we would be a more gracious people. The most judgemental people in the world are the ones that claim to be religious. I just claim to be spiritual. =) my two cents worth.
