vision quest
i took my little brother (12) on a hike while we were camping. he is such a troubled little man for just being 12. i suppose i was as well.
i turned all his negative comments into positive moments. expressed to him that killing things really isnt fun. life is beautiful. we were walking across a channel where the lake had receeded and we each found a marble, two marbles on the bottom of this lake that we happened to each find one! i told him to hang on to his, mine wouldn't work unless he held onto his as well.
i stopped us at some deer tracks and such, then scooted over to a footprint he had just left and said "look its an andrew track! andrew has been here." and i carved an "A" into the ground next to it, and moved on. but it caught his attention :)
we threw big rocks, hunted for crawdads, and then held our dry stuff above our heads to swim across another channel back towards home.
basically we played suvivorman for about an hour and it cheered him up and got him out of his funk. that morning i meditated and declared my intentions for the day were to smile, be positive, and find the negative and make it positive. i did all three things easily and comfortably with little actual effort. defining my intentions was a powerful tool i must practice more.
