| eff the fat doctor |
tonight, 18 of my friends and i went to a local comedy club that we go to all the time. tonight was a special night...they'd been building it up for weeks. the infamous FAT DOCTOR was there...i'd never seen his act, but it was always a sell-out, reservations-only show. at first he was a little funny...nothing completely hysterical....but then he asked the rudest question i've ever heard in a public place. he yelled "i hate a faggot...we got any faggots here tonight?" (like they'd answer) he then proceeded to tell completely unoriginal jokes about the ill-fated gerbil, and other nonsense that people always assimilate with gay culture. i'm not completely prude, so i sat through about 3 minutes, waiting for this part of the show to segway into something a little less offensive. on the 4th minute, i had all i could take, grabbed my purse, told my husband to find a ride and left as quickly as i could.
i'm sure i'll hear it from my friends tomorrow because i left. they'll laugh and tell me i should've stayed, i missed this or that. but i honestly could not sit there another 30 seconds...hearing him say "faggoty faggot" and "stick that up my ass" and blah blah blah....and retain my sanity. as i drove home, i wondered if i would be completely offended if it were a different subject. so i substituted other racial slurs into his jokes instead of faggot....he still wasn't funny and i was still offended.
we all laugh at jokes made at others' expenses. hell, i'll laugh at any good and original joke. but the utter hatred in his voice and the vicious way in which he repeated the F bomb (fag) just drove me out of my mind. even typing this, i want to just scream because everyone was laughing and clapping, ultimately agreeing with his statements. how do these people feel this way? i don't understand why it's any of their business!! it certainly doesn't affect my marriage with my husband. i love him, and cannot imagine denying someone else this chance.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?!?!?!?!?!
if 2 people can love one another, can be productive members of society, and positively impact others, why does it matter what sex they are? (i purposely used the word sex, not gender....look it up if you don't know the difference).
if the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) community were to receive all of the inherent rights that heterosexuals receive tomorrow, the lives of heterosexuals are NOT going to change. your kids won't be osmotically infected by some pandemic gay hysteria. it will be OK. i promise.
we have so much to worry about daily....why do people choose to spend their time denying their fellow americans basic human rights? our country was based on basic human principles that ALL are created equal and should be treated as such.
anyways i'm rambling....basically i just wanted to say EFF you FAT DOCTOR, and a big fat EFF you to all the closed-minded, loud mouthed, bigots who are too simple to understand that love comes in many forms.
