darwinism is loosely defined as survival of the fittest. it works in every mold of life and is widely accepted by about 9 out of 10 people... (that other 1 being the extreme christians who believe God has a plan for EVERYTHING). i'm a huge fan of darwinism and love the fact that the human race and the animal kingdom were made better because of this natural selection. the smartest, brightest, fastest, etc survive and breed....in turn, making their offspring smart, bright, fast, etc. i love the fact that the possibilities are endless....thinking in a general scheme....5 generations from now, the world should be a much better place than its current condition. now, there will always be the scumbag bottom feeders....but, the upper echelon of society should be much improved.
the cynic in me wants to look to the past and question how much better we are compared to our ancestors. of course we are living longer and have achieved more greatness (in medicine, science, etc)...but we have had access to more opportunities than ever before....... i think it may be easier to just accept that, even though i won't see it, the human race will be better than it is currently in the years to come. sure, there are other factors involved...nurture, morality, etc....but let's keep it simple.
my last thought on darwinism......even though i love the idea, i don't like to see it in action. the reason for this entry may seem ridiculous, but you have to understand where i'm coming from. i have a couple fish tanks, and i proceeded to clean one this morning. when i was vacuuming the gravel, i noticed a few fry (baby fish).....so i caught them and continued looking. i ended up catching 7 of them (saw a few more, but my back was killing me and i was losing excitement). i put the 7 in a small quarantine tank and as i watched them, i realized i had a few options. i could leave them in this tank, and hope they don't die (i would feel HORRIBLE) ...or...i could put them back into the original tank and hope they survive. i really don't have the room for 7 new fish, so i'd have to get a new tank if they all survived....but, i could accomodate a few more. so i'm thinking....the best of these 7 will survive being eaten by the other fish..i'll have strong, smart and healthy fish for my next generation. so, i put the fry back into the tank, and immediately most went straight into hiding. 2 of them stayed at the top and were swimming around...right as a huge molly came and swallowed them whole. i was stunned and saddened. i knew it would happen...but i didn't want to see it firsthand! we all have seen someone who can't drive and we know that one day they will get into an accident....but i don't want to be the one to see the crash! natural selection and popluation control are good things....i just don't want to be a witness!

I respect your sentiments as it relates to dawnism although I am in the "one percent" who believes in God being the intelligent architect of life because I can not fathom how everything in life just happened to be and therefore we exist for if I walk pass a house or building, I would not subscribe that same logic of "chance" and ignore the fact that this fancy well built house that happened to have a kitchen I need to prepare my meals complete with all the gadgets that makes it possible for me to function as designed just so happened by chance or accident. This same house have a bathroom feature that just so happened to accommodate my most basic needs as a human being complete with running water and this too just happened by chance or accident.
It would not take great imagination to assume or believe that an intelligent architect of human origin has sat down and etched out blueprint or a design that first began in his heart and mind and then was bought forth by tools that he used with his very human hands to bring into existence the house I live in and equally it is not difficult at all for me to believe that an intelligent architect of Divine Nature bought forth life and all of humanity and communicated with mankind the laws that are prevalent in practically every culture on this planet the knowledge of right and wrong whether practiced or not. Where do this type of knowledge comes in to play in the dawnism theory? The universal laws that gives engages mankind in a philosophical awareness that there are fundamental knowledge of right and wrong which is why most culturals excuse or accuse one another based on these universal laws that seems to come from within.
I respect your right to embrace dawnisim although I have to confess that it would take more faith for me to believe that we just "happened" by accident and only the strong survive as each generation is continually improving (only when it comes to technology) for all our learning and knowledge, we have not improved in the most basic and fundamental posturing of humanity and that is to eliminate greed, selfishness, hatred, racism, bigotry, murderous thoughts, rapes and so forth. After everything is said and done, how much did we fundamenally changed and evolved from our first ancestry apart from computers and finding cures that are not available to everyone because of greed from the pharmacetutical companies and the selfishness of humanity?
