Pearl Jam Performs Landmark Halloween Set
Different people celebrate Halloween in different ways. Some people dress in scary costumes and go trick or treating. Some dress in slutty costumes and go to parties. Pearl Jam dresses as cheesy 80s bands and puts on the concert performance of their career.
To my knowledge, the Halloween performance in Philadelphia was the longest Pearl Jam concert yet, with a set list totaling 40 songs and two encores. For the second encore, the band came out on stage dressed as Devo, complete with yellow plastic coats and odd flower pot-looking hats, and performed “Whip It.” Okay, so Pearl Jam dressed like Devo as a Halloween costume, but why did Devo dress like Devo?
That wasn’t the only surprise of the show. Included in the large set were some rarities, such as the first ever live performance of “Sweet Lew” and the first performance of “Out of My Mind” since 1994. The band also played some hits that are usually skipped in concert, such as “Alive” and “Jeremy.” The diverse set covered every album from Ten to Backspacer as well as covers of songs by Pink Floyd and Mother love Bone. In many ways, it is a show that Pearl Jam fans in attendance will never forget.
Have you ever seen a band imitate another band for Halloween (I know Phish is known to do this as well)? If so, who? If not, who would you like to see your favorite band imitate? The full set list is below:
