We sometimes take silverware, clothing, and a bed to sleep on in our daily lives. However, even such basic items can be out-of-reach for those who've hit tough times. That doesn't mean that there's no hope; The Mustard Seed of Central Florida is an organization that is helping to "rebuild the lives of families and individuals who have suffered disaster or personal tragedy by providing household furnishings and clothing while being enviromentally responsible to our community," as their website succinctly says.

This past Friday I joined the Thoughts.com staff as they dedicated their afternoon to this charitable organization. Over the past year The Mustard Seed has assisted 1,590 families, so their 20,000 square foot facility is a busy place. We sorted mountains of kitchenware, we unloaded a truckful of mattresses, some of the staff sorted shirts, and others sorted metal for recycling. Thoughts.com founder Ben Ogden, in a flurry of enthused activity, took it upon himself to create care packages with toasters, coffee makers, and other assorted appliances.

Thoughts.com's Queen of the Interns and Social Media guru Sharon noted "The Mustard Seed made me feel overwhelmed to know how many people need essential items I take for granted, like cups or forks. I felt good to be able to be a part of a family's fresh start and I really enjoyed sharing the experience with my fellow co-workers, and being able to show 'one love' to the community. We all fall and we all need a helping hand. I would definitely like to volunteer here again."

If you'd like more information about this great charity, free to contact The Mustard Seed by phone at 407-875-2040 or through their online contact form. They accept furniture and clothing donations (as well as monetary ones) and are always in need of volunteers.
