Alice in Wonderland is horrifying! The idea of some crazy alternate universe behind the mirror has always sent chills up my spine. Every time Alice in Wonderland gets mentioned (you'd notice it more if you had the phobia) I'm completely spooked when I have to look in a mirror. Which is absolutely devastating for someone as vain as me.
Have you spent time looking in a mirror? I mean really looked. What's through the mirror, or more importantly, who is the person staring back at you. Life and experiences have changed many things about me, but that's not what my reflection shows. Am I still that little boy afraid of the white rabbit?
If I knew then what I know now, would I have become a different person? Would I be the person I am today? As we grow we gain insight. With time we're able to recognize our mistakes and actually learn. These being the lessons to help us later. But then shit hits the fan and we feel ourselves lost in the wind. And there we are, back at square one.
If you're anything like me you walk through life with a craving for control. You need to have purpose,
and you need that purpose to be self-defined. Moving ahead in life, trying to anticipate and prepare, finding yourself suddenly confused and afraid. Is there some magic word that we could use, a trigger, to remind us to take a step back and see past the fairytale into reality. Or maybe we don't want reality. Maybe we find comfort in masks and fallacy. Besides, living the dream is a lot more fun than the harsh reality of confused perspective.
