 Some questions?
Pursuit of truth is essential for the survival of any society especially a democratic one. Enlightened debates form a part of this process. Public awareness about policy decisions and its true impact is the cornerstone of any democracy. Raising valid questions regarding the veracity of the worldview that a government tries to project is an important step in that direction. Dismissing such attempts as dissent and heresy subverts freedom and the very principles on which democracy stands.

Ideally in a democracy, majority voice should be the loudest and the most powerful. However in spite of many safeguards, there is a real danger of power falling into the hands of a minority. In most societies, wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few. Only the most naïve can deny that wealth translates into power even in a democracy. Wealth always seeks to gather more wealth. When corporate and economic interests collude with political interests, more often than not national interests take the backseat. How can minority rule be viable in a democracy “for the people and by the people” that explicitly champions the power of majority? The answer is disinformation, misinformation, and plain no information.

My question to you is, are you aware of such trends in your country? Does government policy always mirror public opinion? Have there been efforts by your government to divert attention from the real issues such as poverty, corruption, and environment? If so, what are the tactics employed? Do you believe everything that your government tells you? Are you aware of a media-government-corporate nexus? Is your government’s worldview at variance with the rest of the world? If yes, which would be the most outstanding example? What is the source of your information?

Thank you for participating.

In all honesty wealth rules in America. Our government is sometimes wrong because you have read I think cabin fevers blog about all of those war veterans who never got the money they were owed. That is proof that our government is corrupt.

I think that there are many middle men who take money that we earned and embezil it for themselves, but there is nothing we can do about it. That's all I know to speak of. Take care:)

Hey Taz, haven't seen you for awhile, I've been busy, I'm sure you have been too.
I think truth must start in the home ...

I am not aware of that trend is Australia .. but I am not very good with following political stuff here. I'm sure the government does divert our attention at times, they are good at it aren't they?

Thank you Lana for the honest comment.

Good to see you Easy. I have been away from Thoughts for some time because of Abid's continued poor health though on the good side, I get to spend a lot of time with him.

I guess it is the same everywhere. I really wanted to know everyone's opinion to get a firsthand knowledge of how aware people are. Thank you for your comment Rene. Looking forward to reading more of your thriller of a story.

Your blogs are always thought provoking and I enjoy them.
I hate most politics, government types are a different breed of people, a lot of them start out as being for the people but as time goes on it is innevatable that they soon start playing the game of keeping their jobs and voter support, which is usually the money people. In Canada if you hold office for 2 terms or more you are elegeble for a government pension. That's 8 years. Too bad because its too much about money and not about people.

I just added another page of my story. Enjoy.

I don't get into political discussions because frankly, I'm not well-informed at the moment! Used to be, but now I just write and paint. I did, however, see that Abid had been under the weather and hope he is doing better! XX

sorry about Abid- We in the US would be foolish to say that we have not allowed wealth and influence to hold power, and have ignored deep and pressing issues- there seems to be at least some change in the air- Our problem has been that there are enough very rural, very conservative districts that return the same men over and over- these men gain seniority and are able to keep anything truly progressive at at bay- on the other hand, our court system has been fairly diligent about protecting minority rights- but our free press has not done as well- they've gotten seduced by sensationalism and superficiallity- in the end it is the hearts of the people that make our democracy work or not- when we recall our collective duties to the poor and sick and imprisioned and oppressed we are truly great- but when we are self-centered and greedy and power hungry we are a burden to the world- we at least do not have the deep and terrible religous divide your country suffers- but we are starting to lose the religion we have, and that's sad- I feel the concern in your words and I share them- may we all be called to the path of love- Imsallah.....

Dear friends:

I am sorry for not being around for some time now. Things have been really hectic at home and I probably will not be able to come back until everything settles down. I do miss you all. I apologize. I wish you all the best of health and cheer.

Until we meet again .... God willing. You may contact me at 'thehseen@gmail.com' if you wish to write to me meanwhile.

Peace and love,

Taz
