 A Graduation Gift

In my dorm, perched on the top of my headboard, is a small stuffed cat.  It has been well-used and is a bit worn; its fur is not soft and silky like it once might have been, but rather coarse, thick, rough...

This cat, although not brand-new, is one of my favorite possessions that I brought with me to college.  It's white fur may be a bit dingy, and its black glossy eyes may be scratched, its whiskers short and choppy but it means so much more to me than just a stuffed cat.

This cat has not been in my possession for very long at all, three months at the longest.  I recieved it as a gift at my graduation party from one of my best friends, Brandi.  She never told me the origin of this brown-tipped, stuffed Siamese toy, but I believe that it is fair to assume to that it belonged to her when she was a little girl.

Brandi knows how much I love cats and this gift was truly one from the heart.  Sure, it's a very cute kitty, but what makes it even cuter is that every time I look at that stuffed animal, it reminds me that I've got some great friends, even when we're miles apart.

THIS WRITING PROMPT WAS: Close your eyes briefly.  Think of one object that's in the room and focus on it.  Without opening your eyes, recall as much detail as you can about it.  After 3 minutes or so, open your eyes and write about that object without looking at it. Isn't it funny how sometimes the most "worn" gifts are the most special? Take mamaw's bible for instance. It was used for years and years, I will always remember her sitting in her chair. She read that little red bible every night, and would often place special clippings from the newspaper and events. It was also the place she kept love letters from her three grandchildren.----I love you mamaw, you are the best mamaw in the world. I am sure that Brandi's cat was special to her, and her giving it to you was very sweet.

Yeah, it was. :) I love looking at Mamaw's Bible too...I remember when she'd want to read me a story she'd read in the newspaper that she liked or something like that...she'd get out her Bible and pull it out from there! A very special place! :)
