 New Orleans, Three Years Later
Its been almost three years since the tornado hit the city of New Orleans. Thousands of homes were destroyed, people were killed and the city itself was almost " wiped " off the face of the earth. The Mayor promised to rebuild. The Governor promised to rebuild. The President of the United States promised to rebuild. but I guess somebody should have asked them when.
The city of New Orleans is still looking like a war zone. Some people have returned home but countless others are still unable to do so because there is nothing to come home too.
I have heard it said a couple of times, that had the people been more " white" then " black "the city would have been rebuilt by now.
I know here in Canada, hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised as well as building supplies etc.and sent to New Orleans. So what happened to all the US government aid ?
What about all the promises ?
Are the white neighborhoods back up and running ? Was it a case of taking care of the white people first and if there is anything left over, give it to the blacks ?
Of course the government will admit to no such thing, but from a outsiders outlook, it sure looks like thats what happened.
People should be working overtime, every chance they can to put that city back together like it was before the tornado hit. They should not rest until every family that wants to return to the city has a home to go home too.
Three years is just not acceptable and the people should demand the government get off their ass's and get it done.
The state of the City Of New Orleans is a national disgrace.
so until I blog at you again,
take care of yourselves,
and each other......templar

We had a flood here that wiped out my Grandmas house, it took two and a half years before she even got money back for it. So yes it is a major problem that New Orleans is still a disaster area....But you must remeber, it wiped out more than just one town. So it is going to take a very, very long time to rebuild the city....

Oh I know that more then one city was wiped out. However again, there a great many people who believe that the reason its taking so long is the "colour factor".
