 Death on the highways!!!

As much as I enjoy the long weekends, I get worried about how many lives will be lost on our highways.
People traveling to their cottages or to visit friends.  Great weekend things to do but the cost could be high.
People going a little too fast to get to where they want to be, speeding, driving recklessly. Some driving half asleep.
Last weekend, our Victoria Day long weekend, a 17 year old was pulled over after being clocked going 2 k's short of three times the posted speed.
He had " daddies " car.
Of course he was charged, the car was impounded under the new " street racing law " but what if he would have hit somebody ?
Its hard not to "paint " all teenagers with the same brush but perhaps raising the driving age would help.
I know its not always the teens that are guilty but it happens enough.
Start charging cell phone users too.
In Ontario there is no such law but in two other provinces, it is against the law to drive and using a cell phone unless its a " hands free set".
There are some scary people out there on the roads these days and on the long weekends there seems to be that many more.
We must do something to curtail the death on our highways. Getting the speeders, cell phone users, and reckless drivers would be a great start.
so until I blog at you again,
take care of yourselves,
and each other.......templar

it's not just the kids I worry about, it's the adults that drive without paying attention. My line of work is ranked one of the most dangerous. In the last 3 yrs, my truck has been hit 4 times and I have come really close more times than I can count. Slow down people, it's not worth the risk, especially to me! :)

When I signed up on thoughts your blog was one of the firsts I read. You seem like a very caring person!
I agree about the cell phones. It's a major distraction. I had a survey about teen driving. I got just a few responses. I think most of the US has laws against cell phones while driving. Our state doesn't. I was at a redlight one day and counted 9 people that had the green light on phones as they passed. I was in awe. Nobody can go anywhere without taking a call it seems.
I call to talk to my cousin and her kids don't tell me she is in the bath and they take her the phone. I told her I would kick my kids butts if they did that! Is there nowhere a phone is off limits anymore?
I'd like to add you as a friend if you don't mind.
