"Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow
beyond what you were."
Cherie Carter-Scott, "If Love Is a Game, These Are the Rules"
I think forgiveness is the road less traveled.
Ever think about anger? Anger is such a powerful emotion. Anger grips you. It tears at your core being. Anger debilitates you. It grabs hold, it rots your soul. If left alone, anger turns to rage. Rage kills.
Face it, we have all been angry at one time or another. We've been hurt, or we've done something stupid and gotten pretty fired up with ourself. Anger, it's an every day feeling. Society tells us we have to be calm, cool, and collected. But are we?
If I read the newspaper, I see so many stories that lead me to think of man they are angry people. It's all over the headlines. Anger, rage, murder, rape, crime, jail, etc. It goes on and on.
We as God's children are called to forgive. So many times in my life I've chosen to forgive. Yes, I said chosen. I sure didn't feel like it at the time. I've prayed, "Lord, give me what it takes to forgive xyz." He's always been faithful to help me forgive.
Forgiveness is often one of the hardest things to do, I mean afterall you were hurt, lied about, lied to. Trust was broken ... the list goes on. Forgiveness though, challenges your heart and your mind to be the stronger of the two people.
Here's the good part. When your choose to forgive, your load lightens. Your outlook is brighter. You can walk with your head high, knowing it doesn't rule over you any more. Your stress level drops. You have grown. You are a better person without that anger you felt inside.
You become free of the chain that has held a grip onto your life.
I guess what I want to say is, choose today to forgive. You can forgive. You may not be able to forget, but forgiveness will take you places you never dreamed of. Forgiveness makes the heart grow stronger.
I choose to forgive.
