First day at Good Samaritan orphanage
We had orientation today at the orphanage Good Samaritan. The kids were wonderful. There are about 280 kids ranging from 5 to about 12. It is a primary school and all the kids are orphans. Some sleep there, but some live near the school. For lunch, they have to find themselves some food. They looked so excited to meet Sam and I, and were very enthusiastic about us teaching them. They had prepared a wonderful assembly for us, welcoming us, as well as a dance performance and a drum performance. All of them are so grateful for the little the have. It really makes you feel spoiled. They crave the education. When I went and introduced myself in the classes I’ll be teaching, they were thrilled to know I’d be introducing French as one of my lessons. Sam and I will be there Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’ll be teaching them phys. Ed., French, English, writing, music and art. They have no resources there. No balls, no desks, no glue, no instruments…yet they still have the happiest faces I have ever seen. They feel a sense of hope, even if just a little and they also truly realise the importance of education. The head master of the school’s name is Noah. He used to be a street guard…he noticed there were so many orphan kids so he eventually decided to take children off the streets…decided to found this orphanage so they would all have some sort of shelter. In the afternoon, Sam and I go back to the Con-Trust office, to assist with the computer course held there for students preparing for university. Since school is so expensive here, to give them a break he only charges about 15000 Ush as opposed to up to 100 000 Ush the schools would charge. Con-Trust really does so much. I spent the afternoon today listening to Sam telling me about all the projects they have done in the past. I was left incredulous and extremely inspired. I have now found a mentor.

Is there anything I (we) can do to help these kids get more of the things that we take for granted?

5 stars for you and Sam. My lord what a blessing you must be ans will be in their lives. I couldnt, my heart couldnt take it. I couldnt do missionary work or travel to other countries to help sick babies, I couldnt and I give you all the props in the world. Please keep us all updated because if there is something I can do as Whitters said above, I am willing to do what I can. An orphanage? My lord, I love what you are doing. They are so lucky, and god will bless you for what you do for these kids, even if its just a smile you bring to their faces. Good luck and my the lord walk walk with you each step of the way... Loved reading thank you...

You have given me and so many others inspiration by what you are doing. Like the others have said, if there is any way we can send parcels of paper, pencils, etc., just say. Please keep us all informed of your work. I am so glad you sound so happy. God Bless.
