Day 6 - Final day at sea
I`m pleased to say that I was feeling much better yesterday and actually spent some time out of my cabin. I had a full hour of Caribbean sun bathing without running to be sick and had the feeling it was going to be a good day. Will, on the other hand, was not so lucky. He seemed to be getting worse again and, as a result, spent most of his day indoors. I kept him company for the most part because that’s just the kind of girl I am. Besides, I feared that if I ventured out alone I might end up in the Casino losing my shoe money on the slots.

I fear my dreams of new shoes may be dealt a cruel blow regardless as we checked out our cruise bill on the TV in our cabin. Turns out that on top of the rather large bar bill we clocked up on the first night, despite not having done anything in the 3 days since then, we’ve still managed to spend a fortune. It would appear that we have a daily charge for fuel, daily gratuity charge, and additional gratuity charge and internet access at 40p per minute. It’s probably not such a bad thing that we’ve been physically unable to spend any further. Will was looking pale enough before hand, but I feared he might keel over when he saw what we were being charged. We could have stayed at home and hired someone to come over and violently shake the bed from side to side for a mere fraction of the price. I haven’t actually voiced this opinion for fear that he’ll take me up on the offer and attempt to book it.

In addition to being sick, we’ve had pretty naff TV to keep us occupied. For some strange reason, we had a Fox News channel, but it was Fox Colorado. This confused me for a couple of days until I realised that Colorado is two hours behind where we are. This helped me to understand why the 5pm bulletin was at 7. I can tell you all about the weather in Grand Junction, how the economy is and what the President is doing during his visit to Denver, but I couldn’t tell you the first thing about what’s happening in the time zone I’m actually in.

Convincing Will out of bed to get some food, we bumped into a woman he’d been chatting to on the cruise message board On asking how we enjoyed the BNL show we told her I’d been sick and we’d missed it. She told us she’d have a chat to someone she knew on the boat who had tickets for both shows and that had already seen the set. Not wanting to think too much of it, we thanked her and strolled off. Some time later, she caught up with us and let us know that it looked very much as though the woman would be happy enough to give us the tickets. She was either very drunk, had been out in the sun too long or was just a genuinely lovely person and I dearly wanted to seek out and lick her face. This is the highest form of my affection, just in case you were wondering.

As you can imagine, this brightened my day considerably. Will’s expression didn’t really change, but I chose to ignore this and revel in my new found excitement. I think he was under the impression that, due to my terrible sense of direction and penchant for getting completely lost, he’d be forced to accompany me to the concert, despite his not feeling well. How well he knows me.

Without actually telling him that I would require his company at the 11pm BNL show, I was nice to him for the rest of the day. I figured this ploy would make it more difficult for him to refuse the concert later. I got him juice and asked him how he was feeling on several occasions, but felt that this wasn’t really cutting it. I eventually suggested that we could have an early dinner, watch the Clinton-Obama democratic debate live from L.A AND sit through the first episode of the new season of Lost. I hate political debates and I despise Lost, so I figured he suspected what was going on.

At 10:50pm, I dragged my hubby out of the cabin and hit the Caribbean Lounge to watch Barenaked Ladies. They were fabulous. Will had to head home half way, but I stayed on, just nipping out to avoid the crush before the encore.

Weary but extremely happy, I made my last trip back to the cabin to pack up our stuff and get a few hours sleep before arrival and debarkation in Miami. The first part of our trip was officially over and although the ship and the company were fantastic, we couldn’t wait to get on the road and head south to the firm ground of Key Largo.
