ODE TO A CLOTHING SHOPPER

First let me say that clothing shoppers are marvelous. They know what they want.  Here are some examples of just how diligent you are when it comes to what you put on your body.  We’ll start with the neckline of a garment.  You will find it will either be too high or too low, or too round or not round enough.  A v-neck top won’t do but neither will a turtleneck top.  You could wear it strapless but you’ve got to cover those unsightly arms which leads us to the topic of sleeves.  The sleeves and shoulders of a garment also have certain criteria to meet.  Some  people can’t wear sleeveless garments because of  floppy underarms but  they don’t like long sleeves so they would rather have three-quarter length sleeves but they find then unattractive.  Sometimes you find a top you really like but it has dolman sleeves and it seems to  have way too much material even though the rest of the item is tight like you want.  Shoulder  pads aren’t liked and even though you love the garb one can’t seem to bring themselves to snip the threads and take them out because its too much work.

The detailing, the extras,  buttons, etc. is a topic unto itself.  There is too much ‘fru fru’ or not enough.  You’ll take the  outfit if the salesperson marks it down because you’ll have to change the buttons since you don’t like them.  Can’t the salesperson make the  long skirt shorter or give you a break on the price because you’ll have to shorten it?  Pants seem to have a life of their own also.  They become too long or too short.  The legs are too wide or too skinny.  They can’t cling to you or show through but you do want the to set your figure off. You know that you love a certain outfit if only it were in a different material.  Hats look good if they’re on someone  else’s head.  A discussion on swimwear would fill volumes so I’ll stop my salute to the many people who wear clothes with verve.  May you continue to look your best….I’m going today to look for shoes but they’ll have to be  a narrow width even though my feet have gotten wider.
