| About Me |
I'm just like any other person out there. I'm searching for my niche, looking for love. I'm not necessarily lonely because I have great family and friends, but I've always got my eye out for that special someone. A lot of my blogs are about love. It's something I think about often. Sometimes I feel happy because I like someone, but most of the time my love life (lack thereof) frustrates me.
I'm not gunna lie, my life is pretty darn good, so this is my one place to complain about the one thing in life that I cannot do all by myself- have a relationship. Occasionally I'll deviate and talk about something else if it's on my mind, but generally you can find the rants, raves, and curiousities of a single female. Common, repetative topics include: sex, guys, future, life, philosophical questions, hypothetical letters, exboyfriends, and the occasional girl-crush.
I love comments, so if anything strikes a chord with you, write it down for me. If you have any questions that would require the opinion of a girl/woman/female let me know too. (sorry, I'm obviously not that great at figuring out the male side of things...) |

Wow, I saw both of you guys posting in my blog and I wondered why you have such disdain for each other... I guess I can see why.
Honestly though, both science and christianity have wonderful things to offer. I don't think they are mutually exclusive. I personally do not believe in a God, nor do I attend church. One can see my bias as a woman of science, but I still respect many of the Christian citizens of the world.
Christianity can offer hope and often promotes good works. This is what society needs at this point. There is too much poverty, violence, and general degradation of life. Some people generate their own values and ethics, others need or want more concrete structure- this is where religion often finds its niche.
Unfortunately, there are those which do not recognize religion as a "faith". Those who are fundamentalist often forget that religion is a faith, they take everything as fact, hard and true. They do not worry so much as to the quality of life of others, as much as they value upholding the book they worship. This is where religion scares me. These people forget Jesus's purpose, to promote love and forgiveness, to provide guidance. Instead, they focus on things irrelevant to the present and the harmonization of the human race. They focus on conversion, our archaeic past, belittling those of differing faiths, minorities in the population, and only promote good works as a way into heaven.
Good works are essential. Even as a non-believer, I still provide for my community and help those in need. That is what needs to happen. You guys need to let go of your differences, stop insulting each other, and just realize that you're different and have different opinions on some "controversial" topics. (posted in

Okay guys, we need to chill out here. I think that we need to remember that bigotry in both directions is harmful. Respect each other's opinions while still maintaining your own. If one of you changes your mind, great, if not, that's okay too. (posted in
Intolerance and violence make me angry)

As a teenager, I feel that my opinion might give a little different perspective. I feel like what these girls did was very wrong and that, yes, they should be tried as adults. I am disgusted with my generation. However, I think I can help clear up the confusion as to what might have prompted the girls to do this.
There were probably many factors that fed this incident. Internet, peer pressure, neglect, self-image, violence in the media.
The internet is a factor because the video on Youtube was the ultimate goal of the disgusting crime. It was probably the place where all of the teens pooled their ideas and planned the whole thing.
I can't imagine that any one of those involved didn't know it was wrong to do those things to another living, breathing, feeling, human being. I think that it was probably brought up as an angry idea, someone caught in the lust of rage. Once the opinion was voiced, others felt obligated to agree. Since it was validated by peers, the original idea-maker felt bound to the plan.
Not all people would feel bound by such a plan. Most people would listen to their hearts and realize how wrong this is, even if they "disappoint" their peers. However, these teens do not seem like they have enough self-confidence to leave the comfort of the group setting. As proof, look at how many teens were involved. They needed to "prove" their dominance to each other.
Since I don't know the teens involved, it's hard to say why they have such low self-esteem. I would probably have to say that their parents aren't involved in their lives enough. Where are the parents when this beating happened? How could they not hear the screaming? Those are just questions of actual physical presence, but there is much more to parenting that teens need. The parents likely either did not have strict boundaries, too strict of boundaries, or absolutely no presence in the teens' lives. Any of these things would lead to rebellious teens that feel either neglected or bound. These two things would lead to rebellious behavior, either to solicit attention, or to rebel against their parents.
Why they decided to beat a girl instead of some other form of mutilation or vandalism? I think it is because of the media. It is so easy to blame the media for a lot of societal issues, but I really think it is the case. To those who watch the primetime soaps, pregnancy isn't really about the new life coming into the world, it's about drama. The war in Iraq is not really a big deal, it's just numbers. A human life is just a number to them, just some drama. They lack the empathy to understand the worth of another person. The media numbs them with numbers, over-dramatization, lack of real consequences, the lack of emphasizing the gravity of serious situations.
My generation has grown up with split families, television as a foster mother , internet as a foster father, either no attention at home, or paranoid parents who lay down obscene restrictions. We are a generation who knows nothing in the media but sex, inequality, rape, murder, and war.
These teens are still at fault for their actions, but look around you- it is difficult growing up in these conditions. (posted in
