SMELLING ROSE

Today I am going out to a football game. Is one of the last good things about Seattle, we have water and mountains, and an inner city that is perched upon the highlands and looks out and down and to Asia if indeed anybody can really see that far. We have more than I can tell you about in a single blog which I intentionally try to keep short and pointless. Have fought the urge for a long time now to not make this a JOB. I write for fun, and even when my mind turns serious, I seek out the best humor a hungry ocean seal can find. And yes, it is my lot and luck and planning to go out today, to a football game. . My blog for today: Smelling Rose.

Rough and Ready, and ready to knock some heads together in my mind, but will let the big boys on the field, actually do all my dirty work. Blood and guts and inches are miles mentality, and if we play it right, this game, it won’t creep up into the stand where people yell and shout and drink beer. And yes it’s a rowdy crowd sometimes. Not what you really expect in Seattle where we often turn the other cheek, and hide our nuclear submarines where most can’t see them. So this sill be a Rough and Tumble Day. The object is to WIN and still be alive at the end. A day of conflict. And so I was thinking about it. Take the smelling salts and the medical staff. Be careful Nothing is safe, when you go out these days. Guns and butter. Sports as business. And in the end, we all go home happy. So this is what I am telling you. My blog for today: Smelling Rose.

Started out with a contradictory significance in my mind. Am not really the killing kind, and don’t really want to hurt you, with anything I say. I am a divided force field and strike out at you, with dark words and thought, and try to defeat your defense by putting airs and stares and taunting the likes you have never seen in his intellectual hellhole. In his mind is turmoil and difficulty. He talk about the unchanging and the all embracing influence of the military presence in his world, in his mind and in the children he sells guns and drugs to. Its not what he thought he would grow up to do and be. A great chasm exists. Somehow he became split down the middle. It might have been his grandparents and his own father, the inheritance he gathered upon the way to becoming his own man.

And now he is here. On many levels. Stands before you. And says in a voice out of sci-fi movie: “The fox knows many things.” And a tank or thunder in the sky interrupts the sentence. Is a life sentence and it leave you wondering, “Can you make a difference. Is there a purpose. Is it more than guns and butter.” And when the storm or sound of his voice reappears, you hear. “The hedgehog knows one big thing.”

So now I am almost done. I do try to keep this short. My blog should be fun, and I am going to a football game today. Got out the warm coat and the hat. Looking for a little fun in a hostile world. Have always asked myself about the contradiction. Not going to church on Sunday but going to a professional sports event. Seems odd, but I have done it before. I don’t drink beer. The people around treat me like a hedgehog and a fox. They watch me, but don’t interact. Have been asked once or twice. “Have you ever taken a life?” And I answer. “Point Taken. Do you have another question for me, else I will get back to the game.” Nuclear Submarine Action. Always below the surface, where its not easily seen. But you get the general idea. Lethal and Deadly. Stealth. Dressed as a hedgehog, he is. But maybe he is the fox.

And we leave it at that. Greek poet Archilochus said. “The fox knows many things.” And then went on to say. “Hedgehog knows one big thing. Its just a game. Its just a underwater boat. Bring along the smelling salts. And if you are lucky and pick the right place to sit, as I have. You go to the game to catch the field action and the big brutes beating up on each other, for an inch of ground.

And then, there is that extra treat. Smelling Rose. She is the pretty one sitting to my left, does not come with me, but with another. But it is still an extra benefit. The people above and below me smell of beer. And I am lucky. Left alone. Watching the game. Smelling Rose. Tis a lovely way to spend a day, even if its Sunday. Enjoy. Will tell you the score later. If you survive the day. Nuclear Submarines are deadly, and are lurking near by. Out in the bay, near the stadium. Foxes and hedgehogs. Side by side. Land and Sea. Military Presence. But don’t worry. Its just a game. It is Sunday. Maybe I will go to church after the game. Its an option. Late at night.

same words, different story,
as seems to be near the vanishing point,
of all things.

I remember going to football games with my boyfriend,
just to be with him, and he considered it a waste,

as with reading words to be with a person,
when we are given two hands and
lips to be kept pressed together.

once upon a time.. two mighty warriors wore the name Washington in the Senate arena..and many spoils did Scoop and Warren gather in Military contracts.. and the Great God Boeing smiled and all was well.. alas.. soccer moms cannot fill their shoes...we're close geographically.. someday.
