Thoughts.com Blogs - Afraid to ask?

The reason I bring this is up is because I do this all the time and I have been noticing how often others do it also. Why is it that so many people are afraid to ask for the help? I know why I do it. I have two reason.

1. I think I should be able to do things that I am asking for help with especially when it comes to my children.

2. I know that the people that I am going to ask for help (especially with the children) really don't want to say yes but do anyways.

Now I don't think anyone should be afraid to ask for help for any reason. I really wish that everyone had someone in their life (more then one actually) that wanted to help out when it was needed. I wish the world was full of helpful people not selfish people. The reason I say that is because the person who I wish would want to help me out is someone who is so important in my life and my childrens life but instead of wanting to help out and take the time to spend with my kids they don't and they make that quite clear. It's very hurtful to see the look on this persons face and tone in their voice when I ask for help and they really want to say no. It makes me want to say nevermind and because of knowing this about this person I rarely ask for their help. I always try to find it somewhere else first.

We shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. If we don't ask for help it won't be long until the pressure overloads us. And not only ask for help, but don't be afraid to ask for a break. Everyone needs a break, even parents.
