The definition of a "cool mom" is one who loves and accepts you as you are, but is not afraid to tell you the truth when you need to hear it. She shares in your joys and sorrows, but she respects the boundaries. She dresses in a style that enhances her beauty--but does not degrade or ridicule the feminine.
Your mom might be having a hard time accepting the change in her life: her daughter is grown up and an adult. She may see herself as "old" and doesn't know how to handle her feelings about that. It may take her a while to sort all that out.
It is hard seeing your kids grow up, your family change and sort of "dissolve". A person has to constantly evolve and move on with the flow of life. It takes a while and may involve a few missteps.
She may be trying to find a way to connect with you, too. Since you are so close to her, have a talk, but do it gently. Go shopping with her and find her some awesome outfits that are more appropriate and encourage her. You sound like a loving daughter--I am sure you will work it out. (posted in
