Crystal Beach Surf Trip - March 1st
Waaay fun! Yeeaahhh!

When Mitzie and I woke up at around 4 in the morning, I was so excited I could barely finish my breakfast. I knew I was hungered but the butterflies in my stomach took over. Still, I managed to eat enough to fill me up for about two hours.

When Rox arrived at the NLEX entrance toll booth around 0540, Mitzie took over the wheel and off we went! All I could think of was how much fun I would be having in a few hours. I just took in the sights as we zoomed past the provincial towns along the way.

The average travel time to Crystal Beach from Manila is about three hours but we got there in just 2 hours and 40 minutes, and that's with some slight traffic along the way and three pitstops. Girls and their bladders. Go figure.

Upon arriving at Crystal Beach, we then proceeded to the cottages reserved by Sherwin and Leinee who were already there the previous night. After a few minutes, I just couldn't contain myself and I went straight to the beach to check out the waves.

Man, was I stoked! The waves were fast and aggressive! They just kept coming, one after the other, slapping all the surfers around. The waves are not gnarly big by any means, only about 5 feet, but who cares?

I immediately ran to the reception area, rented a board, and headed straight to the beach. Man, 2 years after my last surfing experience (and my last one was my only one so far until this trip to Crystal Beach) and I had a somewhat difficult time catching the waves. Probably because when I first surfed, the waves were very mellow... and did I mention that was 2 years ago? I managed to catch 2 good waves, though, and that was enough to make me glow.

After we had lunch, they all decided to take lessons and I left my ego at the door and joined them, as well. It was worth it, because my instructor, Zaldo, gave me excellent tips in paddling and catching waves. Soon enough, I was surfing wave after wave. Stoked!!!

That night, we all went to Subic Freeport for dinner. I drove while Mitzie backseat drove with me. Good thing after we ate a very heavy dinner at Meat Plus they were both asleep so we got back to the resort in record time. Pushing the pedal on an empty provincial highway with no cars in sight and the wind blowing through your face like crazy is pumping!

When we arrived, Sherwin and I decided to buy 4 bottles of San Mig Light at the store just outside the resort entrance because it was P10 cheaper.

Upon entry, however, we had to pay a P10 charge per bottle for bringing in outside drinks. So much for our tipid-mode.

While drinking, this old guy, the head caretaker of the place I believe, entertained us with stories of his life... his 14 years in Paris, his loser son, the cook who implied to him that she'll give him a free hotdog sandwich if he banged her (I doubt if this story is true), how he takes vitamin C everyday (C for Christ, that is), and jokes he repeated no less than 5 times during the entire conversation (every time he cracked one, he laughs like it was the first time he's heard it), the laziness of some of the people working in the resort, and a whole slew of other stuff.

After that, Sherwin and I chatted a little bit and then decided to call it a night.
