 Job 38
Job 38

37 chapters are spent with man’s opinion – in chapter 38, GOD finally speaks.
How many of us had to come to the end of some junk in our lives before we were ready to hear from GOD?
We need to train ourselves to seek GOD first. Ask “what would Jesus say?”
Visualize the whirlwind in a field in hot summer with the sun bearing down, wind would pick up cornstalks, etc. in the center of the whirlwind was the coolest air – so refreshing.
How refreshing to hear from GOD after days and weeks of silence.

Job 38: 1-2 (HCSB)
1 Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind. He said:
2 Who is this who obscures [My] counsel with ignorant words?

Asking?
Ignorant words – without knowledge – silence is better than words spoken out of ignorance.

Job 38: 3 (HCSB)
3 Get ready to answer Me like a man;
when I question you, you will inform Me.

Stop whining! Prepare yourself like a man.
God questions us for our own good, HE already knows – it is for our discovery,
for us to learn.
Jesus had 2 most effective ways of communication:
1. parables - Emotional word pictures
2. asking questions

Job 38: 4 (HCSB)
4 Where were you when I established the earth?
Tell [Me], if you have understanding.
“Where were you” – identifies God Himself as Creator (Awesome GOD);
Job has been being self righteous, saying he did not deserve what’s been happening -
This verse put Job in his place.

Job 38: 5-16 (HCSB)
5 Who fixed its dimensions? Certainly you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 What supports its foundations?
Or who laid its cornerstone
7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 Who enclosed the sea behind doors
when it burst from the womb,
9 when I made the clouds its garment
and thick darkness its blanket,
10 when I determined its boundaries
and put [its] bars and doors in place,
11 when I declared: "You may come this far, but no farther;
your proud waves stop here"?
12 Have you ever in your life commanded the morning
or assigned the dawn its place,
13 so it may seize the edges of the earth
and shake the wicked out of it?
14 The earth is changed as clay is by a seal;
[its hills] stand out like [the folds of] a garment.
15 Light is withheld from the wicked,
and the arm raised [in violence] is broken.
16 Have you traveled to the sources of the sea
or walked in the depths of the oceans?
Verse 5: the dimensions of the earth – the location of the earth between Venus and Mars is the only place in the solar system that a planet could sustain life – the exact size of the earth keeps the gravitational pull just right. The one moon and where it is keeps precise stability. Discovery channel has a program called The Privileged Earth” with amazing facts of how awesome a miracle the Earth is.
Verse 5 – 6: precise setting of Earth in place
Verse 7: “sons of God” – masculine in the Old Testament most of the time refers to angels – here it is definitely angels.

Creation/virgin birth/resurrection are all being attacked by the secular world – liberal theology does not believe that the Bible is God Breathed.
Do not buy into “Resurrection Faith” this does not teach a physical resurrection only that the disciples faith arose –
We are RESURRECTION BELIEVERS where are faith is based on the PHYSICAL, ACTUAL RESURRECTION.

God always cares for the weakest, the least of these…
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
The “weakest” change from culture to culture and generation-to-generation – today, in our society, the unborn are considered as “the least of these”. It is more dangerous to be in the mother’s womb than to be in Iraq. There are more avenues of help for widows and many organizations helping orphans but few advocates for the speechless newly conceived.

Latin America and parts of Africa are in upheaval because they have taken scripture out of context and have based entire revolutions on “set the captive free”.

Verse 9: blanket – swaddling band – the atmosphere of the earth
the first 2 creations after “let there be light” were earth and sea
Genesis 1:6-10 6And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
God is saying “If I can make the world don’t you think I can handle you?”
Colossians 1:3,16,17 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,… For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,… all things were created by him, and for him:…And he is before all things, and by him all things consist
Jesus holds the universe together.

Verse 11: “This far you may come, but no farther, and here your proud waves must stop!”
Spiritual law as well as physical.
physical dimension and physical limitation
but also
spiritual dimension “come no further”
1. Noah’s day – man is always pushing the limits
2. tower of Babel – God had set limits, when man reached that limit HE confused the language
3. law – Paul testifies that concerning the law he was perfect but he still needed a Savior because we can only get so far …
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Every other religion says moral conduct brings redemption
BUT
Christianity offers redemption because man’s morals can only get him so far…
God reached down from His throne and sent Jesus to take hold of us because we could only get so far on our own – and that “so far” falls short.

Job 38: 17-18 (HCSB)
17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you?
Have you seen the gates of death's shadow?
18 Have you comprehended the extent of the earth?
Tell [Me], if you know all this.
There are things hidden from us; secrets; day of our death; day of HIS return;
gravity and aerodynamics were hidden secrets at the time of Job that have been revealed to us through Newton and the Wright brothers.
“ Tell [Me], if you know all this” the obvious answer is “no”

Creation is really under the gun by the liberal theologists. GOD IS CREATOR!
Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well
Whether we understand it or not –handicap, Down’s syndrome, etc. GOD IS CREATOR!
God can and does use every one HE creates.
