I HAVE JUST SMOKED MY LAST CIGARETTE!!
I HAVE JUST SMOKED MY LAST CIGARETTE!!

Woo hoo!!

I have just smoked my last cigarette, and I am preparing now to carry on and be smoke free and hopefully debt free too.

I started this online journal to keep me focused, and to hopefully encourage others who are in the same boat. The boat I am in is basically this, I have lots of debt, and I continually throw away my money on cigarettes which means i have less money to use to clear the debt, which makes me worry about the debt, which in turn makes me smoke more because I am worrying, its a vicious circle, and I hope to break the cycle and get a healthy body as well as a healthy bank balance lol.

PREPARATION
To prepare for stopping smoking, i have already told most of my friends and family that i am going to stop, this way, because of my stubbornness and pride, i will not want to show myself up and go back on the cigarettes again and have lots of people saying i knew you wouldnt do it, or told you so.
I have also put up no smoking signs in my own house, just so that when my friends who do smoke come to visit me they will not be able to NOT notice that the house is now a smoke free zone, and it will also help me, as i always stick to no smoking zones in any other areas so why not in my own home?
I havent done this yet, but I will once i have finished writing this blog, I am going to throw out all of my cigarette lighters and ashtrays, if i want to anmoke again i will have more to pay for then than just a pack of cigarettes and hopefully it will discourage me.
i will gradually get around the house and clean EVERYWHERE. The whole house will need cleaning to get rid of the smell of smoking as i smoked in the house for years, so there will be a lot of cleaning to do. I will take one room at a time, i only smoked in the one room, but i have noticed that the smell travels and will notice it more when i have stopped completely and my sense of smell comes back fully.
I have also printed off on my computer a small sort of poster and put it up around the house, i have a picture of cigarette butts on one side and a picture of a gorgeous sunny beach on the other, just to make me realise what i am giving up everytime i go and buy a pack of cigarettes, the money i spend on cigarettes could very easily pay for a holiday in the sun, so i have stuck these up around the house and i have a credit card sized copy in my purse too just to keep reminding me of what i will have if i dont smoke

CALCULATIONS
i counted up the cost of smoking, and if i dont smoke, i could easily clear off the money i owe out, and have enough to spend on a holiday, spending money included and pay for christmas within one year, and that is just counting what i spend on cigarettes. SHOCKING!!!

So wish me luck as i begin the journey, i will update as much as i can, and i will be completly honest with you.

i will let you know tomorrow how i got therough my first day

Great choice! Your lungs will thank you, and so will your wallet! Try gum-chewing or sucking mints when you get the itch for a smoke. I remember seeing a photo of a smoker's lung once. Talk about disgusting! You'll be glad you quit.

I wish you the best of luck. I smoked for about 8 years and have been smoke free for the past 9 months or so. The smell actually makes me sick now. I thought that would never happen to me. Here are some of my tips. First I wouldn't want to remind myself nor surround myself with smoking. Those "No Smoking" signs might have a reverse affect on you. Believe me, if the thought of smoking is there, you will want one. Even now, when i see people smoking on tv, it makes me crave one. You might want to rethink that. After all, that is why you tossed the lighters right? What about the book of matches? Toss those too.

You might want to get some nicotine gum for the first 3 or so days. You will have crazy headaches as you go through withdrawl, and it wont be easy. Gum and mints will work, but honestly the nicotine gum will help you ween of the smokes. Also, change your lifestyle. I started to go running. It was hard at first, but it caused me to hate smoking. Or find something else that is active.

Smoking is a habit, and once you break that habit you should be doing well. The cravings may never stop, but you have to WANT to be smoke free. I stayed away from gas stations as much as possible. Because thats where i always got my smokes. I stoped drinking coffee, and beer for a while because that also triggered a craving. These are some of the things you have to consider when you want to change. The habit is often triggered by something small.

Best of luck and stay strong
