This will sound dorky but it works... before you call her write down bullet points on a piece of paper (you can have your friend help you)of topics you could talk about if there is an awkward pause. You could also confess to your gf about your "phone awkwardness" and im sure she will understand. Maybe just start with texting so you can think out your response before you say it. Try texting him instead of calling him. Sometimes guys feel more comfortable writing rather than verbalizing their feelings. You cant be afraid to put yourself out there and be vulnerable.
