Inquiry will always subsist when it comes to betrayal in the marriages of political figures. As citizens, voters, and people, we have questions - Why do leading men cheat on their wives? Why do these woman stand by them through the whole confession ordeal? Why do they confess to the world? Is it guilt? Is there a financial motivation behind the outings? Is it blackmail? Is it for us to know?
Monogamy has been poured down the drain and marriage seems like an open book invitation to wrong-doing. The more the merrier, I guess. It seems as though its impossible for these men to remain faithful and for reasons unknown to the public eye, first lady’s stand by them regardless. Secrets have been decoded over the wide ranged media about sex scandals and betrayal within marriages of leaders of states. So is this the new trend of political leaders today?
Elected officials have been deceitful towards their wives with other women, high-priced call-girls, and even other males. What does this say about political beliefs? What does this say about the sanctity marriage in general in America?
Historically, John F. Kennedy has been measured as a great man and President for political reasons, but not for marriage-related reasons. Even John F. Kennedy has had many secret affairs, in which one of the woman he’s been involved with being Marilyn Monroe. Judith Campbell, among others, was another woman in which he’s had a sexual relationship with, all while married. It was reported and written by Frank Sinatra's butler that “President Kennedy had a burning ambition to bed every woman in Hollywood.” In preserved documents, fine points exposed JFK's affair with a teenage intern.
Previous political leaders have committed adultery as well. There was also Grover Cleveland who fathered an illegitimate child before running for President. The 42nd President, Bill Clinton, was impeached following a sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. As Governor of Arkansas, he’s also had alleged relationships with Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones. In spite, Mrs. Hillary Clinton has continued to remain by his side. It seems ill-considered, but who are we to judge? There are countless faces to follow this leaning of adultery in political marriages. So is it truly safe to say that infidelity is a new thing? Or is it that due to the media, and other communications, it is vastly difficult for anyone to keep secrets anymore?
Sex Sells! Media makes the presumptions. Believing that the majority of Americans want the news to focus on sex over real politics. In television today, every time you turn to the news stations, it seems as though up comes a new sex scandal. In today’s world, no one is safe from exposure.
Infidelity is nothing new to America’s leaders and public figures. This is no growing scourge as of recent affairs of state, but what about the confessions? Is it even worth it? Some say that it’s better to maintain particular matters behind closed doors and out of the public eye when dealing with marital concerns. It’s obvious that politicians are no better than the lives of everyday people. It’s considered fact that in every marriage, someone will cheat, whether male or female.
Governor of New Jersey, James E. McGreevey, confessed to having an affair with another man which was his Homeland Security advisor. The Democratic Governor, Eliot Spitzer, resigned after just 14 months in office after purportedly being identified as John #9 in a scandal involved with a high priced call-girl and prostitution ring. Larry Craig, a Republican Senator from Idaho, defends himself in saying that he is not gay. Even so, he declined to seek re-election after pleading guilty to lewd conduct in an airport men’s room.
When it comes to Republicans, they often believe in teaching abstinence and appear incredibly in opposition to gay marriage. Overall, Republicans want to eliminate sex from any public verves. To believe in sexual repression, how is it that they have so many sex scandals within their own party? Like Arthur Brown. This Utah Republican served in the Senate 1896 until his mistress shot and killed him in 1897. But it goes even deeper and gets even more disturbingly appalling than that. How about the Mayor of Spokane, WA Jim West? As a Republican, this man has fought for anti-gay rights yet allegedly molested two young boys. At the same time, he served as a law enforcement officer and scoutmaster who sought after men online. Hello… sense, are you there? Last, but amazingly not least, there was also Bob Bauman, a Maryland Republican, who took place as US Congressman after re-election following sex & solicitation charges from a 16-year-old boy. Republicans are not the only party to commit adultery and break laws of sexual misdeeds, but they are ones who are held to be the conservative group. Politics in general is full of lies, deceit, manipulation and uncontrollable sexual urges.
Politics has never been regarded as a truthful and honest line of business, but its also never been perceived as such a treacherous life.
Infidelity? It’s nothing new and nothing secretive. This is no epidemic, but is a new found viewpoint of recent means of communication led by reporters and anchors. America has always been full of scandals.

I agree with alot you have said. And yes we republicans have scum in our ranks too.
Problem is, when a person chooses to take th eoffice, they must expect to be scrutinized more than the average person. And yes, if they choose to break their marriage convenant, their honesty comes into question. It is not so much the public wants perfection, they more want honesty. To make a mistake is human, to hide the mistake till caught is cowardly. And a mistake becomes a lifestyle when it is a common occurance.
Problem with politicians is we quit putting Abraham Lincolns in and started putting rich, spoiled, attorneys in power.
Not that their is a thing wrong with being rich or an attorney. But politics was meant to be held by every segment of society, rich and poor, teacher and attorney. But all we have now is professional pandering liars. We will continue to get what we vote in!
