Take a man, put him away, put him 12,000 miles from home.
Empty his heart of all but blood, and make him live in sweat and mud.
This is the life I now live, and why to God my soul I give.
You peace boys sit in your easy chairs, while over here the best are dying.
You burn your draft cards, march at dawn, and plant your signs on the white house lawn
You say,"lets ban the bomb theres no real war in Vietnam!"
So use your drugs, and have your fun, and then refuse to use your gun.
I say his arm a bloody shred, I heard them say, "this one is dead.'
He gave you life, by loosing his.
But who gives a damn what a soldier gives.
His family, friends, wife and sons, but that about the only ones!
