| The joys of being a(n ex) teacher

I gave up teaching back in September...I figured there had to be more to life than the lack of respect, the huge piles of work, and just the pressure of the whole profession. Yes, the hols were great but when you are living in fear of one of your pupils catching you doing something you shouldn't be...(by this I mean just one beer too many...) they tend not to be quite so special...
So, I quit...five years of trying despearately to climb higher and higher up the ladder over with...five years of having to put up with "Miss we saw you at the cinema last night" "that's so unfair" and various other taunts over with...or so I thought...
I have recently (due to lack of money) moved back into one of the areas where I used to teach...two months I had passed in realtive silence and annonymity...then on a walk with my girlfriend the other night I spy a group of young ladies by a bus stop outside the local McDonalds...I smile because I recognise them but am keen to leave it at that...I carry on walking...
"MISS PREECE, OI MISS PREECE STOP IGNORING US" come the yells from down the street..."MISS!!!" I daren't turn around and look...I just carry on walking...I turn to my girlfriend and groan..."It was two bleeding years ago that I taught there bab, and then only for 6 months"....Grrr!
So in the unlikely event that you are under 18 and still go to school...if you see your teacher walking down the street a smile and a polite hello will suffice...there's no need to yell...they may crave some privacy away from school! |
