Well on January 5, 2008 my Mom, Dad and I went to visit my brother in rehab! A few days before I was a nervous wreck. I was sooo nervous. I had so much to say and I wasn't sure what to expect. I cried alot that day! first we sat in a chapel and said why we were there. When it was my turn I said my name and tried to choke back tears when I said I was there to support my bro. I wasn't succusfull, I was bawling and gave my brother a huge hug. After Luch the families got together with the counsellor and we did an excersise to gauge comfort levles. We had 8 people( including the councellor) and we each had to stand across from a stranger( I was across from the councellor) and they would walk towards us from across the room. When they got as close as we were comfortable with we held up our hand and said "stop!", well I let her get pretty close to me. She then had us switch partners to someone we knew. My parents did it together 1st( my dad over steped my mom's bounderies). After everyone had done it except my mom and I she made us do it by ourselfs infront of the rest of the group. The real eye opener was that I didn't let my mom as close as I had let the councellor!!!! I was soooo shock that I started to cry all over again and I could tell my mom was shocked too. I think I might have actually hurt her!!! As she was getting closer my chest began to tighten. It was soooo weird.

thats some pretty intense stuff. i think its great you went to support your brother.
I wouldn't worry about not letting your mom get closer to you, if anything it means you just aren't comfortable letting her know how comfortable you are with her, not that you are not comfortable with her getting closer. I think thats natural for children to act that way with parents. Its counterintuitive but i wouldn't think too much of it.
